The sound of clattering dice makes the players feel like they had a chance to begin with. My DM sometimes rolls dice for no reason just to psych us out.
Hypocrisy is strong in people like twilight. They need to maintain “control” of their little fiefdom as a GM and will bend/break the rules as long as it benefits them.
Who the hell even uses dice to determinate the difficulty of a check?
Also Twilight’s character seems a bit inconsistent, at first she was very strict about rules but now she cheats?
…And since we’re talking about Batman. I’m going to embrace my inner Riddler and say the answer is obviously “A nail in a horseshoe.” That one’s done to death.
I’ve only RP’d for maybe a month in my whole life when I joined this club in high school, but I agree with the fact that you shouldn’t fuck with results. What the hell’s the point of having die if you make up you own numbers?
It’s like if Two Face was gonna flip his coin to decide if he wanted to kill someone, but when it landed tails he decided “Fuck it, I’m killing you anyways.”
Sometimes “in favor of the players” can take long-term goals into consideration. If you REALLY need to knock the party unconscious to establish a greater narrative, then care should definitely be used, but is not an outright “bad” thing to do.
Situation yes, but in this situation it seems like she is just doing it because she can. Though to be fair I don’t know the whole story so take that as you will
@Nebbie
Black and white thinking, eh? There are dozens (hundreds) of books and articles written by gamers and designers that disagree with you. Can it be a factor in bad GMing? Sure, but it all depends on the circumstances involved. It’s definitely not a black&white thing, though.
