It doesn’t matter how good you think you are, if you are going to save lives then get the job done and leave the self-gratification for latter, there is more than your ego at play. Rainbow Dash failed at saving lives because she thought it was a given after a few successes, she didn’t give it the priority it deserves. I’m glad the episode showed a situation like this, even if fans would rather have her ““being awesome”” 24/7.
According to this review, the moral in EG (At least the one given by Principal Celestia) was contradictory to the way the conflict was resolved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFGh2wUdW-A
@Alel
Right, so half a second of distraction while trying to stop a runaway carriage, which, by the way, can only move according to gravitational pull, is unforgivable even if the pony trying to save them happens to be one of the few to ever break the sound barrier?
@Mayojar77
Not really, there is contrast. Rainbow Dash ended up holding conventions about herself, and got distracted when trying to save ponies. The others were talking in private between friends, without blowing it out of proportion, and never WHILE saving ponies.
They showed one can celebrate their accomplishments without it getting in the way.
@Mayojar77
I love how apparently it would have been better to let all those ponies die so Rainbow Dash wouldn’t feel bad about someone else stealing the spotlight, even though she would surely feel worse about ponies dying. Also how people conveniently forget that Twilight saved Rainbow Dash from drowning.
They were looking after Rainbow Dash and showing her an efficient way to be a hero. Rainbow Dash fans can be too sensitive and overprotective.
In fact to further add to my point, for someone who complained about the pacing of EG, the author should learn how to pace reviews in written form. Making your rants long enough to make a short novel out of isn’t making the points stronger, it’s just diluting the message and making it harder and harder to follow, in essence valuing quantity over quality in terms of criticism.
Over 3/4’s of these I don’t feel are actual fair criticisms. Personal gripes perhaps, but it feels like it just adds needless fluff. Even the compliments section I feel is too long, mainly because what the author says in 4 sentences could be condensed to two.
So in short, I do not agree with most of what Dark Qiviut said in terms of negative aspects of the film, but recognize that it is his personal issues he had with them, and so I can understand and respect that. However, I find the length of his review to be horrible, and the amount he tried to cram into every complaint too much and with too little pacing to making seem like anything other than a rant.
So what your saying is that this movie is like the show, full of plotholes but enjoyable if you don’t take them seriously?
Than again, I’m clinically insane judging by these comments, since I didn’t hate mare do well and enjoyed it as a chance for them to have some fun and get both a darkwing duck and batman the animated serious reference into the show.
@Prof.NightJack
It is. It’s done so that you can tell this isn’t just some shitty Highschool drama movie, it’s a Twilight Sparkle Presents My Little Pony Highschool Drama Movie.
@Guys
From what I’ve heard [since it’s not available everywhere], those ‘fantasy elements’ are more plot conveniences to make certain characters look the way they’re supposed to be seen. As for not stealing the crown, it already belonged to Twilight, so it’s not stealing.
