What you should NEVER do with sparklers is stick them in a potato and then fire them straight up in the air with a giant slingshot. I think my sister still has the scars…

Remember, the only fireworks you should hold (and even then, you should know what you’re doing) are sparklers (don’t laugh) and thundersticks (you know, where you have to aim the tube towards the sky while it shoots out firework shells, etc.)
 
I’m waiting for some idjit to aim a thunderstick/boomstick/what-the-hell at a house by mistake in trying to recreate a historical battle.
 
Actually, now I’m reminded of that “fireworks war” they had on World’s Dumbest or some other clipshow on truTV. One of the funnier clips I remember. Sparks from one firework hit the “ammo cache” of the other guy and the whole thing went up, causing him to, understandably, run away from the ensuing explosion.
