The Fluffiest
In a good story, people will want to be more than just the main character. They can see themselves being one of the supporting characters without feeling like they’re less important because of it.

To which he should have stayed with Cho. Cho was a good character. Nice, supportive, seemed to hold her own with magic. (I think, we never really got to see her perform.)
She was a big influence in books 4-5, and then brushed aside in the next two. (We get like, one mention of her.)

That really urked me. To brush aside a good character, because the main character was an idiot and didn’t take her feelings into account. (Heck, it’s hinted in the 7th book that she may have still wanted him. But nope, he still wants Ginny because….He wants to get on Ron’s bad side?)

The Ginny thing was…stupid on many levels, and honestly made no damn sense when you consider Ginny was a complete nonentity for 5 straight books. Seriously, it’s like writing a story wherein a little girl crushes on Robert Pattinson and then marries him.

Honestly, I’m kind of getting sick of romance shoved in for the sake of it. And I love romance, romance is awesome. But in order for it to BE awesome, it has to be BUILT to that point!

I agree with you. I’m a fan of the books and I always got the feeling that Harry couldn’t hold up in any fight on his own. He needed help. Which was okay, but expelliarmus pretty much became his trademark spell. (To the point the Death Eaters could identify him because of it.)

I just would have liked a little stronger hero. (One who doesn’t brush aside someone like Cho Chang.)
Which got me. I didn’t care much for the last two, but why did he just brush aside her like that. It was stupid. He was being stupid. What, did he just not want to deal with her grief? A couple of kisses here and there were enough?
Geez, I mean he just dumped her because she was moping about Cedric’s death (which didn’t happen that long ago). That and she defended her friend when Harry started bad talking her. (Yeah, Cho’s friend wasn’t a pleasant character, but she was still a friend. I gave Cho points for sticking up to her.)

And after that, not a year after he starts lusting after Ron’s little sister….WHAT?!! He never showed any interest in her before, where did that come from. (Not to mention that it pisses Ron off. As a big brother with a little sister of my own, I can relate.)

I liked Harry, but as time went on, he made some really stupid decisions.

He’s still competent, even on his own. He’s actually a capable defense magic teacher by the fifth book, but he never gets the kind of ball shattering power that Voldemorte has.

True, and that theme was handled excellently, especially by the end. However, I feel that even with that, Harry’s accomplishments were lacking even by that comparison. Tis a lot in between ultimate hero and ponce who can’t do anything on his own. XD

At the very least he admits it, lol.

Although, again, it’s worth mentioning that in LOTR, not even the supporting cast accomplished anything intentionally. Their quest succeeded, quite literally, by accident. XD

I can’t honestly think of a single hero character that wasn’t helped out of a dire situation by a secondary cast member at least once. Hell, it’s kind of a leading message in MLP if you think about it. Friendship is magic after all, and it can save your ass.

I always thought that was kinda the point of the story. Harry’s considered the “Choosen One” and adored by thousands because he did’t die due to something beyond his power (being a baby and all.) He has to come terms with all that as well as the disparity between what people think he’d capable of and what he actually is.

The disconnect between first impressions and reality was a running theme. Like how the Wizarding World seemed so fantastic at first, but was gradually revealed to have just as many troubles as the mortal world.

To this day, I am still not entirely sure how much Harry himself actually ACCOMPLISHED in his books. Hermione, Neville, and the Order seemed to do most of the heavy lifting. XD
