See, considering the FiM character design they could either make ponies look decent from both front and side, OR they could make them look very good from side only. And since you can only see the toys from the side when they’re still inside the packaging it’s the only angle worth making look best. As long as they get kids to buy these the overall sculpt doesn’t matter.
