The only advantage to my method might be flexibility. If the timings of the original .swf are faulty (as in this case) I can fix them. If the colors get messed up (look at the milkshakes and compare to the original swf) I can fix that as well.
 
Someday I will write a tutorial about how to make pony gifs and retire.

Well, you usually make pretty good stuff, so, I’m just curious as to how it usually turns out.
 
The main perk to my workflow is usually just being free as in beer.

Fireworks, at least, makes it much easier to carefully adjust timings and the palette. AE probably doesn’t offer any advantages over what you use (besides ease of use maybe?) Fraps is probably equivalent to swivel except that you have to manually start and stop the recording (which is fine, since a lot of swfs have imperfect loops so manual attention is required).
 
And of course for someone like me who is unfamiliar with using the command line, what I use is a better solution.

Do you get better results from that?

When I convert .swf to gif, I use Fraps, Adobe AE, and Adobe Fireworks.

I think the roles should be switched around with DT to AB, Babs to Scoots, and Silver Spoon to Sweetie Belle since those would be closer equivalent. Maybe.
 
However, imagining Babs trying to brokenly sing in her accent, getting angry as folks keep laughing and her beating up the audience.

Oh yes. Why it took over half a year for this? Awesome.  
Now this needs a special bully song.
