To those wondering what would happen if a huge dragon walked through that mirror…how about getting one to fit, and when it’s not closed?

I see it as this: Ponies are the dominant species of their world as human are in their world while Dragons and Dogs are not. The mirror comes with a sort of Chameleon enchantment (like Doctor Who’s chameleon circuit for the TARDIS) that allows anypony who pass through to the Human World to become the dominant species, humans. But since Dragons don’t exist in the Human world, Spike was changed into a domesticated animal, a pet dog.
