As much as I hate making someone die, changing the mind of a person like Argyle, on the other hoof, seems almost impossible to me.

Phyllis Cloverleaf loved Sprout. He was her own blood, after all. But alas, that purple-maned filly showed much more promise business-wise. She was curious, persistent–traits she definitely inherited–organised and pretty smart overall. Soon came the time when it simply became impossible to hide who was going to rule the big business next. Needless to say that Sprout was very upset. So, considering himself a good son he started searching for something that would prove his worth to the family. And looking through the old publications of some A. Starshine, Sprout finds out about a thing that he thought could be a source of enormous amounts of industrializable energy and sets out to get it.
The thing was called ‘magic’.

Gosh, it’s been ages since I’ve been so inspired! There’s so much that could be turned upside down in the plot of A New Generation movie for roughly the same outcome! There’s Hitch, there’s Bridlewood, there’s Misty and Opaline from MYM!

I really want to draw your Sunny idea, which could either mean:
1: Argyle changes his mind about unity at a younger age, leading to him to becoming one of the richest ponies from owning a company like Canterlogic
2: Argyle passes away at a younger age, Phyllis Cloverleaf takes Sunny as one of her own, allowing her to be the heiress of the Canterlogic throne instead of Sprout

And she would devote her life to steal the way those pompous royal bigwigs can fly so she can ‘appropriate’ some richies’ money more effectively in order for her own family to survive.
So when one day a couple of strangers of another races wandered into her city and told Zipp about their plan, not only did she not turn them in for the reward, like Pipp suggested, she teamed up with them, hoping that that ‘magic’ thing would somehow yield them more reliable benefits, than just the one time pay.

And what if Sunny was not a daughter of a humble historian, but of a prosperous industrialist getting rich from the interracial animosity? Maybe Izzy would then become the only hope of the ponykind?
