Why do you say that? Siby’s actually been pretty cool.
People still treat the canon completely seriously though, that’s what gets me.
This is a world in which space elf ghosts get squirted into giant robots made of bone and do battle with undead space robot necromancers with disintegrator rays and the fate of humanity is controlled by a corpse on a giant machine who psychically protects us all from the evil forces of lulz and just as planned.
This is a world where someone invented a gun that melts tanks by somehow making all their atoms vibrate really fast.
There is an entire species of sentient green fungi who behave like stereotypical football hooligans and can operate advanced interstellar machinery simply by being too stupid to realize it’s impossible.
The feminist rant already stole mine, the christian one is so ridicoulous I can’t muster a reaction.
It’s like WH40k, a world so grim it turns ridicoulous enough you can only find it funny rather than horrifying. I love WH40K, but it has gotten pretty silly.
Holy shit.
The first one wasn’t too bad, just another feminist rant, but the second one…fuck…the comments there are driving my faith in humanity into the negatives.
As a christian myself, I’m always baffled at the religious-nuts who try to paint MLP:FiM as “evil,” or something. (Same goes for the hardcore-Athiests who got offended by “Feeling Pinkie-Keen” thinking it was brainwashing people into relgion, or something.)
@Bronitarian
I think those moments alone gave me hope for E.G. :P
I thank you for sharing that.
That made my fucking day.
This article is nowhere near as awesome as these two.
Nope; I’ve seen a lot of bronies who say the trailer made them more hopeful for the movie.
Or, more realistically, represented as opinion backed up by facts.
Everyone came off looking bad in The Mysterious Mare Do Well.
The content being good is a questionable center for that argument, mate.
Additionally, she was a jealous younger sister and she did ruin the wedding. It also just happen there were was a massive bug infestation with beings which could transform into them. But people ignore the first because Chrysalis and the others were interesting enough to bedazzle.
A lot of fireworks and no substances, is what I’m getting at, and that doesn’t bode well because they keep bringing more fireworks into every event to hide the deficiencies and the fact the stories are rushed or that everyone is acting like an idiot.
So really, a trailer is only about 2 steps above judging the contents of any show, movie, or game. Should it be like that? No. Is it like that? Yes. That’s just the real, practical world we live in.
I think what people really fear is that the Monster High demographic will actually enjoy it, and Hasbro will begin making crappy FiM-themed make-up and nails and tattoos and actual clothing lines to accomodate, which’d alienate not only the bronies but the old demographic as well. (or at least their parents)
Even then, its extremely obvious Equestria Girls doesn’t really focus on the school anyway. Sunset just wants the freaking crown, who cares if she is prom queen? You think Twilight knows? Probably not. She is going to try to win it fair and square because that is the right thing to do. Twilight is just forced to go to school so she win it back but its not going to matter since Sunset will just steal it in the end.
…
I don’t think we are speaking the same terms here.
The ACW wasn’t about the wedding and all of it was literary kicked out by the wayside when the actual interesting bits started to show. The shift could only have been bigger if Celestia was actually killed in the fight.
What you are describing doesn’t bring about tat change and thus is not a good comparison.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
“The trailer is the cover we were meant to judge it by.”
Dwah? Wait, maybe I’ve got this wrong and the point is…
“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
“The trailer is supposed to be more in-depth than the cover, so we should be able to more accurately judge it than, say, looking at a movie poster.”
Which is still wrong because trailers can be misleading.
This trailer for Twelfth Night so clearly appeals to the lowest common denominator of the early 90’s audience. The actual movie is nowhere near as manic as it leads you to believe, actually has a respectable soundtrack, and happens to be one of the best movie adaptations of a Shakespearean work ever.
And just for hilarious parallel’s sake, here’s a trailer for She’s The Man, an adaptation of Twelfth Night set in high school. It’s nothing special, and it’s debatable if it’s as bad as it looks. I personally think it’s slightly above mediocre. This trailer might even support your point depending on your tastes.
Here’s the real fun thing though: both trailers tell us more about the plots and general feels of their respective movies than the EqG trailer does. I mean, if we didn’t already have summaries, we wouldn’t even know why Twilight is going to the other world in the first place. It seems like Celestia just sent her there randomly.
Was the wedding just a sham to get everyone in canterlot? No, it was always intended to happen. The queen just decided to use it to her advantage.
Its exactly the same. A story with the typical good versus evil story covered up by some bad sounding story. The very first episode follows this too. Its a story about stopping an evil queen trying to take over the world and plunge it into eternal darkness but is made out to be a simple story how 6 ponies become friends. 6 ponies becoming friends? Sounds stupid doesn’t it?
That’s not quite the same thing, however.
For it to be even comparable, the idea that the whole school is a sham created by Sunset to confuse others that come after her?
That is an equivalent idea.
What you just describe? If something like that doesn’t happen then the whole story is purposeless and it would have gone below the lowest threshold people are currently giving it, which is assuming it is at least trying to be coherent and logical.
