The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Yeah, Spike is a one-of-a-kind pony raised dragon, and I honestly can’t ever see him interacting well with his own race. For him, its pony girls or nothing.

Spike’s a bit of a special case anyhow. He breathes green teleportation fire (Celestia taught him that), and he’s been grown to adulthood via magic even before his greed growth episode.

^^ Well, that makes two of us then. You’d think that two episodes where dragons and their characteristics were plot points would render more information.

And Rarity will never love him the way he loves her… one big b’aww-fest.

I misread your “stopping dragons” sentence as physically stopping them, not stopping their greed growth. My bad.
Beyond my low-level herpetology, I know very little about dragon culture or biology.

I don’t really know how that first sentence was a response to anything so let me try and make my point about greed growth clearer. Other dragons start to mature around other dragons who are capable of limiting the amount they can collect, and considering the things Spike collected I can only assume it doesn’t have to be anything important, it just has to be theirs. They grow, but only til about teenager size and of course the growth is permanent. Spike, surrounded by ponies with no knowledge of dragons, became far larger and should have stayed that way except he managed to turn himself back in defiance of natural law.

Reptiles tend to be more territorial than aggressive. I doubt they’d go and wreck up places just because they could.
Lyra and Bon Bon are odd to me. At first they were just there, but now the creators are kinda… “implying.” Though, I would like it if Rarity’s dad was an earth pony. It doesn’t seem like his hat is suited comfortably for concealing horns.

The adult dragons in the show also probably grew up around other dragons who were capable of stopping them from taking everything they wanted. I wouldn’t be surprised if most greed growth was stopped when the dragon is around the size Spike was after his first growth spurt. Ponyville is an earth pony town, most of the ponies there are still earth ponies so the other two races have less presence. Lyra and Bonbon are a good example of two background characters of different races hanging out, and the mane 6 and CMC are pretty much models of diversity.

The adult dragons in the show seemed less vicious and more apathetic as long as their stuff was fine.
I wasn’t talking about scenes of romance, more like things in the background that you happen to spot.

Well, onscreen romance is pretty much nil because it isn’t that kind of show. Of the couples we have actually seen there is not a lot of diversity outside of Shining/Cadence and possibly Rarity’s parents as we never saw her dad’s horn. That said, Baby Cakes specifically said the three races intermarry so I don’t understand why he fact it wasn’t actually shown matters. The biggest problem with Spike’s growth being like a unicorn’s magic surge is that I got the impression it wasn’t supposed to be temporary. Zecora mentioned impeding his growth, but nothing about reversing it.

The Baby Cakes: Again, onscreen vs offscreen.
Anyway, Spike was raised by ponies, so I think everyone probably thought his id state was like how baby unicorns use magic crazy: a temporary state yet still pants-crappingly scary. Not to mention him being raised by Celestia.
As much as I like Spike (heh), his character just seems odd to me. His crush was a one-bit joke that escalated to pretty serious in the Diamond dog episode to much more serious in SomE. I don’t even know what it’s like now seeing how Rarity unintentionally makes him feel less of a dragon.

Even if they think of Spike’s feelings as a crush, which I don’t really see honestly especially after SoME, he still has romantic feelings for someone of a different species and they all seem cool with it. There has of course been no real dating, outside of love poison induced dating anyway, but given the fact that harmony is Equestria’s thing, I can’t see them getting worked up over relations between sapient species. Heck, you would think having n apex predator in town would cause problems, especially after he destroyed half of it, but no one even seems to care that Spike is dragon outside of Spike himself.

As to the three pony races, Baby Cakes pretty much covers that.

Yeah, the mules count. But I meant like onscreen stuff. I barely even see earth pony / unicorn, unicorn / pegasus, or pegasus / earth pony couples.
Race and species things are among the top things that make me raise an eyebrow with the series.

Has there actually been interspecies dating (or anything, for that matter) in the show, Candrew? I’m being sincere.
Plus, I sorta think everyone (in-universe) just thinks Spike’s attraction as more of a simple crush rather than actual love, so there isn’t much to “interpret.”

@ Zombie_Trotsky Why should that matter to her? She’s never commented on him having a crush on Rarity as being weird. In fact, nopony in the show seems to care about inter-species dating.

“Lauren Faust, the show’s developer, had said that after the entrance exam, it was Princess Celestia who raised and trained Spike before he ended up as Twilight Sparkle’s assistant later in life, where Princess Celestia believed they did belong together since it was Twilight Sparkle who hatched him.”

I’m sorry, what?
