Good Lord, you guys are still arguing over that “Spike is a dog” thing? Why can’t we just accept the fact that some people don’t see it as demeaning and move on, please?
@Starly
Actually, you are wrong. Here they have an intelligent, reasonable creature who is wise beyond his years, and they turn him into a dog.
Even if it was a joke, it’s not a good one. Basically, it’s saying Spike is less than Twi, even though he’s shown to be much wiser and smarter than Twilight on a bad day. If Spike really is your favorite character, why would you even support this?
@Starly
Because you didn’t seem to have the capacity to understand why people didn’t care for the idea? That’s why I explained that everyone got the joke, it’s just not a very good one.
And then you started cursing to prove you were an adult and I started laughing.
Ignore that statement, that was my bad. What I meant was the style of it is going to be different, and so are the environments. So who knows, maybe since twilight is in a new environment, with her friend, she’ll be more protective of him. In many scenes we see her holding him and such.
@Starly
Yeah, when you act like an ass for no reason people tend to call you on it. I was never upset about this by the way, basically because EG looks to be about as generic as a girls cartoon can get, so I have no plans to see it. All teh anger has, and apparently will continue to be , entirely on your end.
@Background Pony
Uhh, it’s by the same team. McCarthy, Sibsy, Steffan Andrews, Daniel Ingram, Jayson Thiessen and several other staff members said they worked on it the day it was announced.
@Starly
And yet you are pissed off about people having a different opinion then you. Oh Starly, you are everything your bad reputation suggests you’d be.
@Trickquestion
To be fair, Equestria girls, doesn’t have the same writing team as FIM. So there may be some moments that are a bit unusual, or odd to us, because it isn’t the same team (not that this is bad, mind you).
So they may glimpse over it, they may not. We’ll wait and see. And maybe spike won’t mind as much as us.
@candrew
We’re judging based off a 1 and a half minute trailer, NEITEHR Of us know what we’re talking about, so arguing is pointless on eitehr side as we don’t know how it will be handled.
@Itsthinking
See, that’s what I think is going to end up really bugging me. It’s one thing if Twi and Spike still try to have their dynamic just minus speech. Then, the dog transformation would still be a dick decision from a meta perspective, but at least they gave a logical reason for it in the story (magic and such) and tried to preserve Spike’s characterization.
But more then likely, Twilight’s not gonna give a damn her best and oldest friend has been rendered completely mute and forced into a humiliating polymorph. She’ll spazz out over her own body swap, but I doubt they’ll have as much as a single line where Twi expresses concern for Spike.
Believe me, that is nothing something I want and I’ll cheer to high heavens if I’m proven wrong, but when you examine the presentation of Spike’s character in past episodes and his meta dynamic with Twi, what I’ve described seems the most likely outcome.
