Yeah, G4 (and classic animation in general) is much easier to do weird and hyper-emotional faces (think of Pinkamena, insane Twilight and Fluttershy). 3D animation is much more limited, because distorted faces would look creepy and fail to convey the intended emotion. It’s (usually) done properly in AAA 3D animated movies, but of course G5 is just another show designed to sell toys.
