Actually, it looks like the memory crystal thing has been completely ignored/dropped in the show. (It comes up in the comics but clearly Opaline failed to manipulate that.) Twilight was still around when she cut off Equestria from Opaline’s influence so that doesn’t seem the case she’s would have opportunity to alter them without notice.

I’m more curious about why this detail never came up in the series. Were they planning on more G4 connotations/continuity?

Oooh, so that was how Opaline manipulated other ponies into thinking the Mane Six were just legends. She enchanted the memory crystals.
