Description

Rarity is honestly the character that I’d thought about the most when it came to her backstory. I’m not completely against the idea that parents can have completely different talents to their children, but I thought it would be fun to have a bit of sway in her story.
The AU goes that, due to unknown reasons, Rarity’s biological parents had left her off at an orphanage outside of Ponyville. Although she is a hybrid between a unicorn and a siren, due to her siren nature, Rarity has a natural lure to her. Despite being charismatic and loving to those around her, a small town can be quite harsh to those they’re not familiar with. Hence Rarity was left to herself in the orphanage for her younger years.
That is until she was adopted by an older couple. Although they didn’t fully understand the young filly, they still had ample love to give to her. And soon love for her later adopted sister, Sweetie Belle
Rarity had never fully understood what she was capable of. She had only known the natural sway she had on those around her. Always nicer to her than others, almost out of character for some. Always sweeter than normal. It was all a bit unnatural and uncanny. This influenced Rarity more than anything in her childhood. Realizing from a young age that people only seemed influenced by her unintentional magic, Rarity took as much time to get attention for herself rather than what she couldn’t control. Whether that was from the fashion she poured her heart into, or the makeup she would fix every day. She wanted people to be impressed by her and her capabilities, not the magic she couldn’t control.
And so she kept it that way for years. Always keeping to her work. Although she loved her work, even finding her special talent in it, it was always for someone else. She wanted to be the best, but not for herself.
It had only been after some major self-reflection had she understood what her life’s work had meant to her. She had always loved fashion, and she wanted to do it full-time. But after looking inward and talking with her genuine friends about the issue, she made the change to finally work for herself. Work for her and what she loved. Not to get validation for those who were influenced by her magic anyway.
