Seriously, I think his design is a combination of many stallions from the series. I can pick three:
1, Shining Armor VA. Look his shirt, it’s obviously a reference
2. Comet Tail colors: Not the same, but still a reference
3. Soarin’ spiky mane: Self-explanatory.

…I really hate just looking at a cutie mark and naming after it. At least come up with something less literal like Aegis.
