As for the trailer, I’m not optimistic that the movie will be good, but it’s well above the levels of awfulness reserved for Johnny Test and Fish Hooks. Nor do I think that everyone at DHX is a talentless, lazy hack.

It will send the message that “we don’t have to really think about putting any effort into our episodes since they will sell regardless.”

Yep, I def agree with that. A hater can change a single aspect of a show per season if they bitch loud enough (see: Derpy)  
A sycophant will change the entire show/franchise because they got catered to.  
Catering to sycophants only really works if you’re niche-y as fuck already and they’re your majority, such as webcomics leaping to mainstream media formats, or WoW.

Haters are easily ignored, they spout their shit one day, maybe troll for a while, then go away and leave and no one ever pays them any mind ever again.
 
Sycophants on the other hand are the annoying ticks of the fandom, they act as enablers and apologists for quality reduction, and in effect, they ruin the very franchise they worship when they do, and will kill it far faster than an entire army of haters ever will.
