Yeah, you are right about that. And frankly I do see the showrunners making Sunny a permanent Alicorn at some point down the road, with her current state of her abilities being a ‘first step’ to that.
As for the fandom making an outcry, well, I frankly expect them to. Keep in mind that the fandom is a very diverse place with a lot of people with different opinions. So there will also be plenty of people like myself that don’t mind the change of Sunny into an Alicorn, or even welcome it. There were also plenty of people that loved Twilicorn as well. Frankly, the fact that the fandom can still exist even when such disagreements exists is what makes it so special.

She could however still have the full power of one. Although not seen, it’s possible she could learn a few spells, as she isn’t a magic user and much of a fighter to begin with unlike Twilight who always studied magic in addition to being a unicorn. Where would Sunny learn these spells is unknown. My theory is that she finds old spell books somewhere in an old place. I have a feeling she will lose her first real battle against the shadow alicorn, unless the writers decide to rush her powers which would be really dumb.
Although there are no plans for her to become a permeant alicorn just yet, she is still an alicorn in the inside, since she can turn it on and off. It’s a common misconception for some folks to use “temporary”. Temporary would have meant it would have a time limit and you can’t use it anymore and have to find another one. Sunny can become an alicorn anytime she wants to however long she desires, tho she mostly turns it on during dire situations.
So you could say that she is indeed, a permanent alicorn, just not as 24/7 like the other alicorns. let’s not forget that since earth pony magic is back, she has enhanced strength. She could at least deliver a powerful buck or something.
If the showrunners do decide to make her a permanent alicorn 2.0, let’s just hope there won’t be of a big outcry by the fandom, we already had one to deal with and still to this day some people still complain about Twilicorn.

No, we are not. The situations were very different for both of them. Also, Sunny isn’t a full Alicorn like Twilight-rather, she is more of a ‘partial’ Alicorn, gaining the abilities from time to time but most of the time she is just an ordinary Earth pony.
