Oh… poor Celestia, she really doesn’t understand what’s going on but she has to watch it.
And still not understanding how such a thing can even exist in the real world?
@Regal Inkwell
Now this is a mentality I can get behind. I mean, look at Celestia. Think about a real life equivalent. If real life kings and queens were 3 meters tall, had a glowing aura, and had hair that calmly flowed in an ethereal wind, monarchy would be a lot more popular.
@Conscious Donkey
The main reason I can never unironically support monarchism in the real world, but rabidly consume fictional settings with monarchies and will stan royal characters is – Literally that.
Turns out Royals are nothing like the mythologised version in fiction. The most banal royals in fiction still carry an air of dignity and presence. To say nothing of the more fantastical ones. Which… The royals in the real world just don’t. They are just old people in nice clothes. I could dress my grandfather in an expensive suit and he’d have the exact same air as any british prince.
Disappointing. If I’m supposed to believe that some people were just chosen by divine mandate to rule over others, they better look fucking awesome or else.
I understand the sentiment, but… when I was a teenager, she visited my city. I wanted to see what an actual queen of the sun-never-sets-on-the-british-empire legacy looked like, so I went to a street she was supposed to walk by. I went early to be close to the line and of course she was fashionably late, so I waited even longer. In the end, I spent several hours in quite chilly and wet weather. And then suddenly there she was, I was a few meters from her and could see her clearly for 20 seconds or so. But… somehow I expected something more. Some radiant aura of grace, authority and fame I guess. But in reality, she was just another aging lady in a fancy dress and lots of flunkies around her.
On that day, I stopped caring about “celebrities” in all their forms. Funny how she managed to change my perspective and impact my life in those 20 seconds, even if it was the opposite of the expected effect…
