I wonder if that will come into play at all. Okay, batshit theory time (and I usually don’t do this) but, what if Opaline is actually Radiant Hope, as some have speculated, and those bracelets are what she used to seal Sombra’s essence inside her, 1) so that he would never leave her again, 2) so she could try and reform him. However, he is much more powerful than her, so he overpowers her and hijacks her body (so essentially she’s a prisoner in her own body) and builds up her strength again (since this would be Opaline now), having to get used to the new body. Then, she goes on a rampage or something. After exhausting all other methods to deal with her, Twilight seals the magic away (if the comics are to be believed, I think), since she can’t deal with it on her own and her friends are probably dead by that point. This causes the new Alicorn “Opaline” to enter a state of dormancy - then, when the magic is restored, she reawakens.

It could be interesting to have one of the arcs be that they discover Radiant Hope still buried in their, her guilt at what happened eating away at her, so they have to help her realize that it wasn’t her fault, and either give that push to Sombra reforming that she could not, or else purify him away once and for all.

Of course, it could also work if she willingly shackles herself to Sombra, allowing him to take her over, just so she never loses him again - but that seems kinda dark (not that the idea above is a picnic on the beach).

Or it could have nothing to do with that, and Opaline is just the last of a tribe of Alicorns that reemerged sometime in Ancient Equestria’s history to try and assert dominion over the whole world, bring it under their complete control (they feel they have a right to, as the most “perfect” beings), and during the battle, enormous sacrifices were made, such that Twilight seals away the magic to avoid having to make anymore, and it causes them to fade away over time, since Alicorns are far more magically inclined than any other creature - or else, Twilight is dispirited at seeing the way things unfold after negotiations and diplomacy fail, so she seals the magic away before the battle even begins, and the effect is the same. I would guess that Opaline would have been very young when that happened, perhaps even a baby, so that would explain how she was able to last for so long.

Yeah, I could see that happening, totally - I would honestly be surprised if they didn’t reform the unicorn. What would be funny is if one of the things that happens was that Sprout reformed along the way, and it was then him that played a key role in reforming Misty(?) - something about her always feeling weak and helpless, so she latched on to someone who she reasonably suspected was bad news, but was also probably powerful, to feel that sense of power over ponies herself, just a little bit, which Sprout can relate to (doing something bad to feel powerful).

Of course, there has been basically nothing with Sprout since the movie (except the game), so perhaps it’s more likely that Misty was a foalhood friend of Izzy, but was always the more meek type. She eventually got tired of living in Izzy’s shadow, jealous of how Izzy always was able to put on a smile in the face of their miserable upbringings (because it’s pretty clear that Izzy had a miserable life in Bridlewood), so she goes off to find something to make her feel strong as well, and now that she’s fallen in with Opaline, she feels that she’s made too many mistakes to ever be worthy of forgiveness.

Yeah… It’s starting to look like Hasbro really only got Zipp’s design in G5 right and that they already ruined the rest of the other ponies in G5.

I really hope that’s not the case but I’ll wait until more new eps. of G5 airs first before I pass judgement on the G5 series.

Hopefully, G5 will get better once more new ponies shows up in the series later.

Maybe they can parallel Nightmare Moon.

Maybe Twilight saw how the pony tribes were becoming separated again and this angered her because she was the princess of friendship who did so many things for friendship and pony unity, so she decided ponies no longer deserve magic and took it away for herself.
