I remember little of Ponibooru. I was only a lurker then. The site was chaotic, unmoderated, and slow. It was a mess, honestly. Yet there seemed to be a sense of community.
@Myoozik
It was truly an incredible place. I must have only been on it for about a year, but it feels like nearly as much happened in that year as happened here in ten. It was a chaotic, dysfunctional site to be certain, and we’re much better off with Derpibooru, yet one can’t help but feel nostalgia for it.
I was only a tween with limited Internet access back when Ponibooru was up so I never had the chance to go there, that and I was barely aware of the brony thing anyway. I feel like if I had more access to the Internet or if I would’ve been born earlier like the early 90’s, then likely I would’ve became a member. Feels like I missed out on a lot and Derpi’s earliest days so all I can rely on are just eyewitness accounts from veterans and historical evidence of it. No cap, it looked like a fun site. I feel young… :V
I wonder how things would look now if Eco hadn’t locked the site so suddenly, but instead had worked with Derpi’s admins and arranged some sort of proper hand-over (proper transfer of images and comments, for example).
I don’t miss Ponibooru anymore. I wouldn’t mind having a proper searchable read-only archive of it, but only because of historical interest. It was the first. And the worst, especially near the end of its life, after moderation had disappeared.
@WatermelonRat
There’s lots of us Ponibooru veterans here, I believe some sort of documentary could be created if we pooled together everything we know and remember.
My inner historian has always wanted to try to document the rise of Ponibooru, the development of its community, and its exodus to Derpibooru. It’s such an interesting story, I’d hate to see it completely vanish. Probably too late at this point, though.
