I really don’t want him to be a villain again. I get that grief makes people act out, and if G4 had played out differently that could be an emotional story. But after Season 9 if he’s doing anything evil again I just don’t think I’ll be able to muster up any patience or sympathy for it, regardless of his reasoning. Hoping he’s just a bitter old man or something but that cover definitely seems villainous.
Exactly. If he is gonna do villainous stuff again that just means the comic writers truly do not give a shit and think we are stupid enough to eat it up.

If Discord had suffered memory loss as seen with the ponies, only with the difference that he was “put back” to the time when Fluttershy was alive, it can explain a lot, not least his grief so many centuries after her death.
TYT has shown that the ponies had in truth forgotten their history, as seen around the matter of the earth ponies and their magic. And from the movie we know that memory erasure spells may have been used - which must be on a huge scale, even on an alicorn scale.
Whether or not a memory loss spell is responsible for the state of the world at the beginning of G5 is pure speculations. 😊 For all we know it happened natural over a long period of time. The tree tribes went into isolation, history was rewritten/forgotten and a few generations later nopony remembered that Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns lived together in Harmony once. It’s basically a “dark age” where a lot of knowledge had been lost.
Maybe Discord is just bitter because he feels like nothing the Fluttershy or the rest of the Mane Six (whom he still sorta liked even if he didn’t admit it) matter in the long term.
I do not think so, the ponies in G4 had a historical memory that went back many millennia, this was very rarely shown in the show while the comics went more in depth, and then it turned out that the history behind Equestria and pre-Equestria was not subject to frivolous treatment.
It is a current myth that human history is so easily forgotten after a few generations, we still have Stone Age myths in our time. These “dark ages” do not exist, these are myths created in the 19th century to confirm prejudices about stupid humanity in the Middle Ages. Much was lost after the collapse of the Roman Empire, but the historical heritage - the memories of the empire and the ancient Mediterranean society - was never gone. In England it was admittedly a “dark age” in the 400-600 period, but even from that time memories, stories and poems were preserved.
The history can not be wiped away no matter what one does. This also applies to the ponies. From G4 in both the show, the movie and the comics, the story has been very strongly emphasized, including when Luna became Nightmare Moon, the ponies never forgot her, even when the memory of her took shape as myths.
Such a total eradication of the historical heritage will be impossible, then it can only happen through massive interventions with the help of powerful divine interventions - or magic. Zipp touched on something very important when she talked about the airship station in Zephyr Heights, and she has sailed up as an investigator / detective in MYM / TYM (and now the comics) - “it was simply forgotten”. The pegasi are militaristic, industrially minded and organizational, they just do not forget what can bring benefits to them.
And in the MYM special it was revealed that it was not known that the earth ponies had magic, and all knowledge about magic had in a mysterious way been reduced to imagination and distorted considerations as with Harry Potter movies in the movie. The ponies knew they had magic, but not what it was, they were in TYT / MYM literally back to the starting point within magic skills.
There are far too many indications that collective memory loss may have occurred.

With few exceptions, the ponies did not know where Canterlot was, Argyle never found the city when he lived, despite having preserved maps, although they knew about the city’s existence through indirect sources such as written accounts. And none of the G4 books seemed to have been seen in the G5 so far.
According to the IDW authors, Discord is actually a victim who needs help to recover from the grief after Fluttershy’s death. It is possible that Discord cannot remember the centuries after Fluttershy’s death until Equestria collapsed, and his horn among the ruins means that he was there when it happened.

Don’t forget that FS is an Element of Harmony. They’re could be specific reasons why he couldn’t bring her back. And even then, with Flutters being an avid nature enthusiast, would she even want to come back?
It is very possible that the Mane 6 (Twilight as alicorn may return, if she is “dead”, for short stays) ascend after their death as they were elements of Harmony, and come out of range even if Discord can resurrect the dead.
It is my hope that they may have come to the elswhere or the dimension that holds the magic of the ponies to stay there with the rest of the Ponychild, past, present and future. Then it means that Fluttershy is in “the pony paradise” with her friends and relatives, and will stay there forever. She is likely to remain dead rather than compromise her faith as a nature enthusiast, as the IDW comics in particular had shown.
Perhaps Discord for many centuries had become accustomed to Fluttershy’s death and could control his grief, as we know that many centuries have passed since the G4 suddenly collapsed. Whatever happened, he had lost his horn, chosen to maintain himself in a magical world, and preferred to live in deepest isolation. This then led to him eventually losing his mental balance and becoming erratic and unpredictable. If he was exposed to the memory loss that afflicted the ponies, his immortality may have followed to great memory loss, and been “taken back in time”.
Then it’s no wonder he gets crazy in the end. He is likely in a villainous role here, but it is also possible that he was a victim who needed help in the end. Then Sunny is the only one who might be able to reach him, as she deeply missed her father.

Why should I let it go? It was a massive moral failure that ruined Discord’s character development and left the entire finale feeling morally gross. I don’t see a single good reason to “Let it go” until the franchise either addresses it directly or at the very least makes it very, very clear that Discord has SIGNIFICANTLY improved since then.

I hated the Season 9 finale, and I hated what it did with Discord but that doesn’t mean I want him to be unsympathetic. I hated the finale specifically BECAUSE he was so unsympathetic. I want them to course correct on that, not just double down on making him terrible. Ideally I’d want them to actually really address all the issues with what happened in Season 9 and do a better job of making Discord realize all his errors and atone for them, but as I think that ship is already sailed I’d just like them to at least showcase he’s improved in the future.
If this comic is about Discord relapsing to evil out of grief, I’m worried I won’t be able to sympathize with him, because my patience and sympathy is so dried up after season 9.

Wait and see how they explain WHY he lapsed back to evil. Even if it’s unlikely to have a reason we’d find agreeable how will complaining about it before we have anything objective to debate/critique make things better?
And given the backlash Discord got for the S9 finale, how is this comic making him as unsympathetic as fans wanted him to be treated as being objected to by the same fans?
