This strike a little too close for me, since few years ago I had to say goodbye to my 20y old cat. Yea, he was with me all his life.
And you know what? I’m not getting any other animal.
Looks like Twilight needs to learn that lesson hard way.

When you get a pet dog or cat, you know that you are almost definitely going to outlive it and that that loss is going to hurt like hell. And yet, people still get them as pets. People will even get them as pets after outliving one. Because the good times and joy they bring outweighs the pain of losing them.
Now, I’m not saying that this is a pet situation. But I could see even an effectively-immortal person like the princesses still allowing themselves to develop romantic feelings for others. I think the main difference here is that Twilight is MUCH younger than Luna or Celestia. They have likely lived long enough that they can separate sex from romance. Or, they just don’t feel that way about Juice. Being rulers of a nation doesn’t really seem to give them much opportunity to hit the dating scene anyway.
Twilight is likely one who thinks she can separate sex and romantic feelings because she is smart and can just think about it logically. I think that she cannot and hasn’t realized it yet. This doesn’t mean she shouldn’t, but until she is honest with herself and her feelings (and with Juice) it’s just going to be a bigger problem later.

She knows it’s not wise; she said so in page 1. And she’s “way too smart to do something like that!”

… yeah, I don’t think Rarity believed her either. Or Celestia or Luna. I don’t see any of them actually trying to stop her though.

I think it is not wise, Twilight. You will outlive him.
But, maybe all long-live individuals need to go through this…
