He also seems to forget that someone who genuinely has mental issues is often considered by the justice system to lack the mens rea (intent) to commit a crime because their mental state removes the reasoning capacity to actually form intent. It shouldn’t be surprising that the system took her age and mental state into account and didn’t send her to jail and instead ensured she got help. Our Scootabuse fan also seems to forget another big gripe about the justice system; mandatory sentencing which basically forbid judges from showing leniency in situations where it might be warranted.

Problem is, evidence for Scootaloo’s crimes were all over the place. Nobody could doubt she had 1) kidnapped a foal and 2) was mentally ill. And the proposed adoptive parents were rich and loved the baby. So by all rights and means, Scootaloo should have ended at least in jail and the baby with the loving parents.
 
Instead, we get a deus-ex-machina as an ending that handwaves away any consequences of her actions and the parents, that should and could have sued the hell out of any of the protagonists get relegated to the ‘joke’ section…

What drives people up the wall about justice system forreals is that we have all the evidence of malfeasance and avarice needed of 80% of the white collars and politicians both, but if you’re rich enough you can let all the evidence hang out all over and still tell everyone to go fuck themselves and never even get detained.
