Nothing, I suppose. I just don’t think many people know how big, publicly traded corporations like Hasbro function. They have one goal, and one goal only: Make money to please shareholders. All else is, as others described, icing.
You are fighting a losing battle. Just let the neigh sayers pull out their own hair, what good does it do us to convince them otherwise?
THIS. The bottom line is, well, Hasbro’s bottom line.
Why do you think Rarity makes dresses? So they can sell a boutique set. Why does Pinkie like throwing parties? So they can sell a party set. Why do the ponies have pets? So that they can sell pets with the ponies.
The series was crafted around selling toys. It just got a team that cared about it.

I think people forget that first and foremost, MLP is designed to sell toys. The bottom line will always be “What sells better?” That’s why Celestia was pink in the toys.
The stuff like toys based on fan favorites, or even the quality of the show itself, is just delicious icing. The show will always be about toys toys toys.
But it wasn’t ’til recently that it started affecting the show.
Okay then, take out Transformers and my point still stands.
I’m confused by the amount of people who don’t get the whole point of the series. Just like Transformers and nearly everything the Hub runs, it’s designed to sell toys.
Gotta counter on the Transformers not making money. They do. One of the drawback recently has been the fact figures had to have a price increase. Also the show line cannot compete with the movie line in terms of sales. Plus you have five figure lines and three media ventures running at this time. You also have a new movie being filmed as we speak plus the new series in development is a currently to be part of an aligned continuity to the Prime series. Yeah, they’re fine.
Hey, you know what happens to shows that don’t make money? Ask the Young Justice/GLTAS/Dan Vs/Transformers fandoms.
