The product of a short— but fondly remembered— fling between two crunchy artists, Magpie grew up on a healthy diet of hippie wisdom and positive vibes. Treehugger and Spearhead didn’t ever really date, but they were good friends, and raised their little colt together until Spearhead was called away on royal guard business. Maggie loves his father, and admires his career, but isn’t that close to him anymore. Treehugger started dating Pinkie Pie when Magpie was around eight years old, and the two quickly became friends. Pinkie was one of the few ponies who could make the colt defy his stoic nature and actually laugh out loud. He adores his adoptive parent, and admires their optimistic outlook on life.
Magpie himself is just about as laid-back as a pony can get. Being within ten feet of him may cause giddiness, impulsive smiling, inner peace, and the sudden urge to take a nap in a bed of rose petals. He has a calming, capybara-esque presence that other ponies can’t help but mimic. He’s not exactly a clone of his parents, but he’s the product of growing up around some of the chillest ponies in Equestria. He’s probably never been stressed out in his life. His natural calm, combined with his talent in painting and sculpting, has made him a master art therapist. He can sometimes come off as apathetic or careless because of how little emotion he shows outwardly, but he really wants nothing more than to see other ponies happy.
Magpie is the oldest of seven siblings, which requires an immense amount of patience. He loves all of them, but they can be overwhelming at times. He gets along best with Piper, his oldest younger sister, as she takes after him in attitude and outlook. They often go on hikes and camping trips together, sometimes accompanied by Cherry Blossom, their second-babyest sister.
Two of Nova’s best friends are Harvest Moon and Biscotti, Applejack’s sons. He spends a lot of time at Sweet Apple Acres helping with the harvests and keeping the brothers company. Magpie likes to think of them as his cousins, though he isn’t blood related to them. Many of his paintings feature scenes from the farm.
