I’ve actually only gotten a small amount of hate mail in the years I’ve been drawing MLP fanart, which is nice. Even arguments in the comments don’t happen too often. The biggest thing I need to deal with people adding bad or removing good tags, but even that I’m pretty certain is, for the most part, people genuinely thinking they’re making good changes and not trying to vandalize or anything like that XD

The guy I’m talking about is the dude who actually pm’ed me to call me an asshole for simply depicting Luster Dawn as Trixie’s daughter :P

All things considered, everyone’s been pretty cool about it. I mean, only a single person was a jerk to me about it. Everyone else either acknowledges her parentage is just a headcanon or genuinely thought it was canon that she had parents, and isn’t being confrontational about it :D
Luster Dawn could very well have unknown ponies as parents. The finale never even implied Starlight is Luster’s mother. It’s all just headcanon. My headcanon is Luster Dawn isn’t even related to anypony we know because it doesn’t make sense for her to not know about friendship so well if she was, not Starlight, not Trixie, not even Sunburst. And it’s less cliche for a key character to not have relations with other key characters. Stop forcing the fandom’s headcanon on Badumsquish and let him have his fun. He can make Luster Dawn Trixie’s daughter if he wants to.

In all seriousness I think most people just don’t give it a whole lot of thought. My main reason for picking Trixie and Sunburst is those two with Luster create a really nice triadic color scheme so they look really good together :D

That’s fair a point. However, my original criticism revolved around the portrayal of Older Twilight’s expression in response to Trixie’s hostility, which then turned into a debate on who’s actions are justified, which THEN turned into a debate on who could kick who’s ass, which THEN turned into a debate regarding whether or we need to write whole episodes detailing how such a situation would end.
I think the question in this regard is how closely is your interpretation tied to canon. If it’s is “loose interpretation” then it’s completely understandable how you present the characters.
However, my own arguments and understanding always hold the canon as close as possible by default. (I ignored Starlight’s absence, because I too, am not exactly her biggest fan)
If that’s not the case, then then all you needed to do is say so. Otherwise, my basic assumptions give me implications that Twilight and Trixie are in character, which I disagree with

But if we’re gonna get all meta, then there’s no point in criticizing anything of what I drew. If plot armor’s and “x happened because the story needs it to happen” are things, then Trixie does this, Twilight recoils as depicted, end of event because that’s what needed to happen to make the picture work. And if we’re going by my rules and not canon rules, then Trixie does this, Twilight recoils as depicted, end of event because I decided that’s what would happen :P

I agree that that have a nasty history with each other. However, MOST of this on Trixie as it was her that generally the more agonistic of the two. But I don’t remember any of Twilight’s friends pushing her toward forgiving her in Magic Duel. Trixie straight up asked Twilight for forgiveness with tears sin her eyes
If you’re reffering about “No second Prances,” I would understand, but as YOU stated, Starlight died in this universe, which means those events and Trixie’s resulting character development never came to pass.
And even then, you could still hold Trixie accountable for a lot of what happened in Magic Duel. Especially when it was HER who chose to seek out set Amulet because SHE blamed Twilight for everypony laughing at her for a problem SHE caused. Plus, the whole “under the influence” argument goes out the window when she tried to make Rainbow Dash, and I quote, “writhe in agony” AFTER she was free from it’s influence, and still referred to Ponyville as “her subjects” That shows intent.
As for the second part, I was speaking in context of a face-to-face confrontation. If you give anyone Plot Armor and Prep Time, of course anypony can accomplish anything. There could be a story where Trixie tries to destroy the entire universe because somepony accidently ruined her hair. Eventually, somepony will stop her, and given Twilight’s friends are always there help her, and if not her friends, some additional 3rd party, I don’t see Trix getting far as say… Starlight
A Love Potion? Nothing Cadence and Shining Armor won’t fix, assuming it even works on Twilight, given the Need it Want it Spell didn’t work on Princess Celestia. Swamp Fever, Cutie Pox? Zecora literally lives right next to Ponyville. A Cockatrice? Fluttershy comes in. A tornado, hey Rainbow Dash can you help out?
I also wouldn’t call Trixie “charismatic”, that’s more of Rarity’s trait. She’s not exactly seen in the best light throughout Equestria, unless you count “To Where and back Again” (which goes back to Starlight not existing in this universe.) In fact I can’t even remember the last time Trixie tried to sweet talk or even manipulate others AGAINST anyone. Most of her social skills revolve around her being a showpony. Flim and Flam are far better con artists.
And no, I disagree. Trixie WOULDN’T think that far ahead. She’s not Batman she’s gonna take out literally every character in the show. “Magic Duel” is the best planning she’s ever done, and in the end, she got tricked over a doorstop. She hasn’t shown in the series she’s even remotely clever as some of the other villains.
In fact, I would argue she IS the type to get caught. Holding a bottle over of “plot device” over a sleeping Twilight and going on a monologue about how she’s deserves it and “Trixie will have the last laugh” as her maniacal cackling wakes up Twilight and has her asking why she’s in her room, is exactly how I’d imagine things would go based on her portrayal in the show.
As for Flurry Heart… Just no. That’s too much. I get what you said about Luster, but Flurry Heart would never betray her Best Aunt Ever over something Trixie started, after all tome she’s spent with her. I’m not even sure 100% Sunburst would agree either. The fact that Trixie is completely out of line in this situation is what screws her over.
My original point was Twilight shouldn’t have to be afraid of Trixie because, well, she’s Trixie, but now it’s escalating into whether Trixie can just do anything to retaliate over something SHE provoked and is 100% responsible for. She should KNOW she can’t attack Twilight over an ASSUMPTION. And if she does, she deserves what’s coming to her. What happens after is ultimately up to the author. But I personally think Twilight would slap her on the hoof for the 4TH time
As for the Harley Quinn comparison, I was simply making a point, but in context, those circumstances are attributed to plot armor as well. Kryptonite Red Suns don’t fall out of the sky. And Batman’s win to loss ratio against her is like 500+ to 4, and even THEN, she usually had both Joker AND dozens of henchman WITH prep time against him.

I don’t think she does. Probably an acquaintance at best. All things and justifications aside, they have a nasty history with each other and Twilight was hard set on zero forgiveness or trust until one of her friends pressured her into chilling out. I doubt she hates Trixie, but it’s probably indifference at absolute most :P
Under the effects of an evil amulet though. Blaming Trixie for the shit she did under that amulet is like blaming the stuff Rarity did when she was all Ecto-Coolered up in Inspiration Manifestation XD
And that’s exactly it. There’s TONS of ways Trixie or Luster could retaliate. How hard would it be to slip love poison into her drink and make her fall in love with Sludge, or get her hands on yet another power boosting or power nullifying artifact that seem to exist in bulk in Equestria. Or afflict her with poison joke, or swamp fever, or cutie pox? Hell, characters casually have pets like cockatrices and whirling mungtooths (mungteeth?), so how hard would it be to do that and unleash them in the palace to petrify Twiggles or destroy the place with a tornado? Or hell, Chrysalis had the three pony species at each other’s throats to the point the windigos came back after like a week of spreading rumors, so imagine what someone as charismatic as Trixie could do considering she knows some of their dirtier secrets? And yeah, you could say “well Twilight would send her to the moon or turn her to stone or whatever” but you think someone like Trixie thinks that far ahead? And that’s assuming she even got caught; sneaking in and out of the palace or Twilight’s Castle isn’t hard given how many characters have done it so effortlessly. And that’s to say nothing of how, in this scenario, making enemies with Trixie would include Sunburst, and likely by extension, Princess Flurry Heart whom he helped raise as well :P
And, not for nothing, but Harley Quinn actually DID defeat Superman. Twice. Once by taking advantage of a red sun which nullified his powers, and once by swiping Batman’s piece of kryptonite, effectively defeating Batman, Superman, AND Wonder Woman one-on-three. Harley Quinn, canonically, is NOT to be fucked with; she’s one of the most dangerous of the rogues for a reason :D

That would imply Twilight doesn’t consider her a friend. Maybe she DOES look down upon her at times, but all things considered, she did forgive her for humiliating her friends, indirectly endangering Ponyville via Snips and Snails, (minors who don’t know better), cheating in a magic duel, throwing Twilight across the town and banishing her home, (an action that potentially endangered Twilight’s life) and, literally enslaving, whipping, and forcing labor upon her friends and family.
Trixie literally turned Spike, Twilight’s own adopted child, into a ball and bounced it around the town, and Twilight still forgave her after everything AND encouraged the town folk to do the same. She’s probably the reason Princess Celestia never got involved. I’m sure Twilight, in canon, would have the same reaction to Trixie as she did Fluttershy.
However, with all due respect, as popular as Trixie is in the fandom, her power level is pretty weak considering she needs a the Alicorn Amulet to stand a chance against season 3 unicorn Twilight.
I’m not saying Twilight would or should because she’s NOT a cruel or evil character, BUT hypothetically, from an ANALYTICAL point of view, if, and only if Twilight wanted to slap Luster right then and there in whatever fanfiction she turns evil, there is, realistically NOTHING Trixie could do in her power to retaliate. There is no “fuck you all kinds of up” with Trixie of all ponies. Not once has she displayed that level of strength or skill. She’s never even been in a fight with anypony other than Twilight
I’m sorry, but the gap is just so wide, it’s comparing basically Harley Quinn Vs Superman, and Trixie has to be pretty stupid not to understand this, which ironically IS in character for her

There’s a big difference between having a friend angrily, but meekly tell you a vague threat, and having someone who you keep at an unsure distance (at best) leaping on you, grabbing you, getting right in your face, and yelling at the top of her lungs that she will, in no uncertain terms, fuck you all kinds of up if you hurt her daughter. You’d be better off getting between the Ursa Major and it’s baby than getting between Trixie and her’s XD

It’s nice to talk about. It’s easy to get tunnel vision as an artist, where you assume everyone sees everything the exact same way I do, it’s nice to compare other people’s interpretations to my own :D

Twilight’s afraid of ladybugs, quesadillas, and potentially snakes and bats, and completely falls to pieces at the thought of missing a homework assignment or losing a trivia competition. She’s set the bar pretty low in terms of what minor things are capable of scaring her. The only time she tends to not show fear is either when she has enough time to pull back and compose herself, or when the potential threat is far enough away that it doesn’t spark that initial flight-or-fight response of hers. Reacting on spontaneity has always been her biggest weakness so I’d say a screaming furious pony leaping on her like that out of nowhere would elicit a “rear back in fear” reaction, and it’d probably take her a good 10 seconds or so to collect herself and react with confidence.
A different way to look at it, is no character has ever done this to Twilight in all her life. She’d never had someone leap on her like this, grab her, and scream in her face. Just the sheer confusion, like “what the hell is happening?!” would probably spook her this much XD
