I find that Evangelion makes a lot more sense if you just imagine Hideaki Anno standing in the back of the room or the theater behind you, screaming "FUCK YOU" at the top of this lungs, until his voice breaks and he slowly crumples to his knees shaking with inexpressible rage and overwhelmed with depression. Then the TV shows and movies really make a lot more sense, I feel. It kind of pulls together the narrative.
I think this artist's work really captured that sense of outwardly projected self loathing and ineffectual rage that is so essential to the Evangelion aesthetic.

It really is, in many ways, the ultimate expression of each. It's like the perfect apocalypse crossover.
