If G4 and G5 remain linked, it’ll be so far in the future no older ponies should be appearing except in cameo pieces in the background, and not alive walking around.
 
Based on leaks and statements, I theorize Hasbro’s people working on it went forward with a whole new project, but later decided linking them would be ok, if not beneficial.
 
But pretty sure the Mane 6 and Equestria itself is basically devolved into myth and legend, probably along with magic and cutie marks (i.e. see Disney’s Onward movie background).

Sunny Starscout fan
While Sunny will always be my favorite G5 character, I still really like the design of Pipp, as well. It will be really fun to see her, along with Sunny and Izzy, in the G5 Movie when that releases.
