It's a bit of a trade-off. It's two more mana than "[the base effect,":](https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=500896) but you can get three combats in a single turn... as long as you're willing to give an opponent two on their next turn. And damage accumulates over the whole turn, so your forces may end up crumbling by attack number three.

On the other hand, the opponent's extra combat won't matter if they're dead by your third attack.
 
It's great if you're going in against an empty board... but by the same token, it's useless if you don't have the forces to make those extra combats worthwhile. And six mana _*is_* a lot. All told, it's situational, but potentially devastating in the right circumstances.
