The joke is that Twilight could have paused the documentary and watched the real sunset before going back to resume the documentary. Instead, she missed the sunset entirely.
They want to watch moss grow.
Then the next day, they can watch the Twilight together!
This is a boomer comic, it always has been.
I’m not sure what you’re going at. But what has been established in this series is that this Ponyville is a small town surrounded by forested mountains, by a river and a gorge, near some other small towns, and not too far away from a bigger city. They have nature all around them and many times in this series when walking around their town or neighborhood they have mountain scenery all around them. It’s based on the Pacific Northwest.
Not sure you boomer comment either.
This is happening in Ponyville, though. It is not exactly a metropolis. It is as rural as one can get.
I get your point, but that is a very rural/suburban point of view. I have friends who live in New York City and Singapore where the only “nature” they see on a daily basis are carefully chosen, placed, planted and cared for year round.
Or, you know, maybe it’s making the point that there’s beauty in nature no matter where you live, if you just take a look around.
For example, here in the Northeast we may not have the sunsets or mountains or deserts you find out west, or the glaciers or aurora of the north, or any of those types of views we expect to see on postcards and wall art. But in autumn, our forests light up with color that’s second to none.
Pointing out how your “this joke doesn’t work” doesn’t work due to making assumptions that are very unlikely base on the continuity of the comic/series.
That might be the case if they were going to the place mentioned in the documentary, which they’d explicitly say if they were.

You do realize that they have cars, right? And I highly doubt it’s “a country millions of miles away.”
