Melonie is an annoyingly energetic, bubbly young rosebud with a very, very sensitive nose. This caused her problems as a child since magnolia flowers are naturally incredibly fragrant. But she eventually became able to smell past her own flowers, and perhaps because of it developed a love for other smells. She’s incredibly passionate about her job, and loves going out to pick different wildflowers and herbs to make incense, oils, and medicines. When it comes to plants, Melon is like a little encyclopedia. She can spout off the full names of flowers, plants, weeds, and herbs of any sort along with all of its properties like it’s some sort of fun game. However, she tends to be completely clueless in all other matters, especially social ones. She doesn’t realize when people are being sarcastic or facetious, or even if they are flat out making fun of her. It has often been remarked that Melon doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, and to an extent this is true. But honestly, it is likely just because she hasn’t yet discovered that it can be beneficial to be mean sometimes. She is the sort who will excuse herself when someone else bumps into her or, maybe even chase after them and offer to try and help with whatever they’re doing ‘coz it seems awfully urgent. In addition to her cluelessness she also is lacking in natural grace. She’s completely clumsy. She is constantly running her nose into doors and corners, tripping over literally nothing, and getting her feet and tail tangled. She used to have very long hair, but her mother eventually made her cut it because she kept getting tangled in it. All of her self-inflicted abuse has made her pretty tough when it comes to scrapes and bruises; she can just laugh them off at this point. Plus all of her hiking around searching for desirable plants has given her some pretty good muscle definition. Combined with her active nature and healthy eating habits, Melon is actually incredibly strong. Granted, she typically applies those gams to pulling up roots. Last but not least, when something does get under her sin and upset her, or she feels like she’s messed up…. she cries. A lot. For days, sometimes. She doesn’t have very good coping mechanisms, and so tends to blubber on and make herself depressed. When she eventually does recover, she tends to just avoid and ignore the source of her anguish. She hasn’t learned that you can’t run away from your problems.History//
Melonie is still a very young rosebud. She was a startling child, having been born to two rosebuds with red roses. Everyone was shocked when her flowers bloomed to reveal not white rosebuds, but enormous magnolia flowers! This caused some disagreements between her parents. You see, her mother had bright red roses, and her father had dark red roses. Neither of them had ever had magnolias appear in their family lines! However, there was a rosebud who DID. The prince down south, living on his vast estate… While this particular rosebud had light pink roses, it was a well-known fact that his father, the king of the little province, had large magnoila flowers. The couple remained together for a very short year after Melon’s birth, before her ‘father’ left them, angry at her mothers betrayal. So Melon lived alone with her mother, blissfully unaware of the scandal surrounding her birth. Naturally, there was gossip among their neighbors, but as Melonie grew up, the news became stale, and everyone moved on to the next new thing. Letters were never exchanged between Melon’s mother and the Prince of the Southern Province, and Melon grew up having never met him.Melon was an odd child from the beginning. When her flowers first bloomed, their overly-large petals fell over her eyes and made it difficult to see, and she was constantly plucking the lower petals to be able to see. This was where she discovered that those petals could be used to make lovely perfumes! But magnolia scents were bland for Melon, to say the leats. After all, she was covered in them! But these experiments encouraged her to try her methods with other flowers. Her mother, delighted to see her taking an interest in something constructive, bought her books about flora, which Melon lapped up with vigor. When she wasn’t mashing up plants together, she was tailing along after other rosebud children, failing spectacularly at whatever game they played (except for log-drag. She was great at that one.) but never giving up. Her tenacity endeared her to her peers, and despite their occasional jeering (which got old quickly enough since she didn’t realize she was being mocked) she made plenty of friends.Recently she has come into herself a little more, having (technically) reached adulthood. She is still unable to support herself alone, and so still lives with her mother. But she has recently set up shop out of their home, offering different types of aromatherapy, as well as essential oils and herbal remedies. She has never traveled out of her little town (her mother seriously dreads what might happen if she were to) and so her little business is mostly dependent on her neighbors buying goods from her. But, unbeknownst to Melonie and her mother, someone has been keeping a very close eye on them…For the MYO Rosales contest here!!
