Headcannons:
-Celestia and her younger sister Luna were found as orphans by Starswirl the Bearded who took the two under his guidance.
-She and Luna showed great magical potential and ascended to Alicorns at a young age. They were chosen to rule the newly-found Equestria by the ponies who lived there.
-After Luna’s corruption and banishment as Nightmare Moon, Celestia was devastated and spent many years indoors, which caused her coat to pale in color due to no exposure to the sunlight.
-Celestia founded the School for Gifted Unicorns shortly after Luna’s disappearance in hopes of finding the Element of Magic needed to wield the other five Elements and reform Luna.
-After Twilight’s ascension to Alicornhood (and eventually the end of season 8) Celestia realized it was time for her to retire. She, Luna and Cadence figured Twilight couldn’t rule since she was too unexperienced, and since Cadence was already ruling the Crystal Empire with her family, Luna was chosen to rule, since she was on the moon for a millennium anyways. After Luna’s coronation as the single Empress of Equestria Celestia went to live with her partners in Sweet Apple Acres and build her family.
-After Celestia gave some of her magic to Luna in a magic pendant so she could raise the sun, she lost a part of magic, but she still had significantly strong magic. Also, after renowning her title as Princess Celestia cut her hair a bit (just because she could 😉)
