I like that there could be a story being told here, other than the obvious. Judging from ware, Applejack went first, Rarity was probably last judging from the lack of worn edges on her stone. From design, Fluttershy and Pinkie were probably pretty close if not at the same time.
Twilight didn’t know how much time had passed from the point where she lost herself in the memories she had with her friends while viewing their graves to that wherein a midnight blue foreleg seemed to materialize across her withers. In fact, time seemed to have lost all meaning altogether. She didn’t look up until at least her eyes were clear of the tears burning them and she could see its owner clearly.
“Does the pain of losing them ever stop?” she asked of Luna, then realized who she was asking and clamped up. Luna had probably never had friends to lose. Which was worse? Was there a worse?
“I imagine… it will fade to a dull ache in time.” The Princess of night replied softly, trying to shake off the awkwardness of the situation of her trying to console her big sister’s protege while said sister was locked away in her chambers, doubtless blaming herself for her student’s newfound loneliness. “If it is any consolation, I can make new constellations in their honor, so that if you wish to be reminded of your time with them, you need only look up at the night sky.”
“I don’t think I would ever sleep again.” Twilight responded after several minutes of thought.
“Oh… then I had better not do that, I suppose.” Luna said, releasing Twilight to stare at the ground and awkwardly trace circles in it with her hoof.
“Do you… prepare night memorials for all ponies who…?” The Princess of Friendship asked, her curiosity starting to distract her from her grief. Becoming aware of this minor relief, she pounced on it, willing away the nagging notion that she might be inflicting pain on the pony she was asking.
“Yes. Every single one. I see their last dreams, and guide their souls to the stars I had made for them, so they can watch over their loved ones whenever they’d like.”
“But then… how many…?”
“Please do not ask that of me, little Sparkle. Sometimes I am assaulted that my time as Nightmare Moon had actually saved my sanity by robbing me of my compassion. Whenever that happens, I…”
“I’m sorry I asked.”
“Don’t be. Your inquisitive nature is part of your charm. Now come. It is time to prod my elder sister into doing her duty as your mentor. Besides, she probably has more and better answers to your questions than I could hope to.”

Yeah… I had that feeling too… I’d have thought her stetson, assuming she wasn’t buried with it, would’ve been placed on the tomb and guarded.
Ya know, I’m pretty sure with all the horrendous ancient and powerful evils they fight together, the mane six would probably go out together instead of one at a time.

The only reason they do not explicitly make ponies die, is because MLP is aimed at tweenage girls (with the exception for G3). That is; 8-14. Total Drama Island also targets as young as 8, and people do not die there…

No, but there’s a standard deviation to a mortal lifestyle. She wouldn’t be living on and on and on and on for so many years that her time with her friends won’t even be 5% of her lifespan.
Immortality in alicorns has been demonstrated. Nothing has been proven about Cadance specifically, but her own history as a character is very interesting.

That’s more directed at the people who make the argument against Alicorn Twilight by complaining that she won’t die with her friends.
If she had outlived them normally would people still be calling for her to die so she’d be with them, and for what matter why don’t people just call out for the remaining 5 of them to die when they outlive one of their friends too.
I just find this whole notion you must die so you can be with your friends absurd and stupid.
I don’t think Twilight even is immortal, at most she can live for a couple thousand years like Celestia and then she will go. I cannot prove this though, but neither can anyone prove that they are immortal.

This isn’t a complaint, it is an illustration. Do you not think it would be different at all? She knows she won’t be joining them naturally. She can start over, but how many times will that work?
I don’t know. But yes, life has harsh realities for us normal people too, and they are also worth considering.
