I’ve warmed up to S9 over the years when things like Pony Life and parts of G5 exist.
Don’t get me wrong, Discord’s reason for “testing Twilight” by almost dooming Equestria thanks to releasing the Legion of Doom still makes no Celestiadamn sense, but at least the rest of the season was alright? Right?!
With a few duds, S9 was alright. Maybe not the best showing, but it’s far from the worst. The LOD episode in particular felt genuine as did Common Ground.
2 4 6 Greaaat while it does have it’s problems (I blame Twilight for being a Trickster to Rainbow making her THINK she’s gonna coach the buckball team then say “LOL nope you’re coaching the cheer squad!”) It feels like it was intended to be a Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy episode retooled into a Dash episode because RD didn’t have enough episodes over the season compared to the others. Also why was Silverstream not on the squad? Smolder, Ocellus and Yona are good choices but the episode made me want more. Maybe even one of the boys too breaking the stereotype that cheerleaders gotta be female?
The Student Six just didn’t have enough development compared to the Mane 6, Spike and Glimglam, all of whom had more than two seasons to grow. So I felt an unintentional apathy towards them.

And while She Talks To Angel WAS a Zecora episode I feel like it was also the episode Angel Bunny needed for us to finally see him as not a jackass though there were episodes like that before none of them focused on him.

So in a sense while Season 1 and 2 had some better episodes in some cases (with Hurricane Fluttershy being THE best Rainbow Dash has ever been) I admit S9 was pretty good.

tl;dr Season 9 was good but could have been even better.

The only pony that shows any sort of interest in Rainbow is Zephyr Breeze and that’s a very one sided thing as Rainbow shows no interest at best and disgust at worst. I’d say Rainbow might be pansexual but she didn’t end up with any pony in TLP and just thinks of Applejack as a sister.

I’m with you that AJ is Asexual. She shows no romantic interest in anypony at least not her pony self. Human!AJ might be lesbian as she seems very interested in Rarity and the staff said they wrote Rarity and Applejack as a couple.

I’d say as far as I know the only ponies to end up with someone are Fluttershy and Pinkie and the former is debatable.

I do wish S9 used the time they focused on the Student six to focus on neglected side characters.

Or Spitfire, I don’t normally ship the ponies but Spitfire is far better than Soarin in my eyes and fits Rainbow’s character better. And she styled her mane based off Spitfire’s. I’d like to think that means “Yes we’re a couple”.

Surprise would be cool, too. As far as stallions go, I just have a hard time also picturing Rainbow as completely straight, when she’s repulsed by most stallions who approach her at worst and ignores them at best, though I would like her to be bisexual.

Appledash not being canon is debateable. The pairing got a lot of shilling from Ashleigh Ball herself, and while Dash does show affection towards Applejack as a rival, it doesn’t really go beyond that. They’re literally just fellow teachers/rivals/elements of harmony.

Who knows? Maybe Rarity isn’t alone and married Rainbow and convinced her to help Applejack on the farm.

To be fair TLP would be more bearable if they explained how each character grew. Like rather than whitewashing Discord’s actions and only getting him told off, Fluttershy redeems him. ANYTHING would be an improvement.

Oh and the lack of a proper Zecora episode (So Princess Celestia and Luna get like 5 episodes, and they even give an episode to the background ponies and pretty much every other side character, but Zecora gets nothing?) really pissed me off too.

Season 9 had so many issues that it’s almost shocking how it came out overall. So much potential is lost for the show’s final bow. Here’s a small list of issues with the season.

It didn’t answer a lot of big questions about the show that has been around for a long time. The best example is Spike’s egg. It would’ve been nice to have a proper backstory about it.

No proper Zecora episode. It bothered me to no end that they never gave her another proper episode after her introduction in the first season. They could’ve easily sacrificed some of the awful episodes involving the yaks to make room for episodes about her. The comics did a horrible job with her background and her homeland.

The Student Six are forgotten. It seemed the show had plans for them after season 8, but they’re dropped after the third episode and aren’t really relevant again afterwards.

It plays itself too much like a regular season. For the final season, it needed to have a more story arc season with each episode leading up to the finale. A few slice of life episodes is fine, but it played itself WAY too safe.

Let’s not forget the biggest offense of all:

Discord is Groger. This is seriously the biggest blunder of FiM ever and something I’ll never understand. How anyone thought it was a good idea to make a villain people had been wanting to see just never truly appear and just be Discord in disguise is beyond me. I really would like a proper explanation for why this was the choice made. Don’t give me that Discord was “testing” Twilight. This was an awful decision, and one that has no excuse.

Just what a waste season 9 was. At least season 3 only had 13 episodes and the team had no idea the show would go on until it was almost completed. This was the show’s last bow, and it goes out on a very low note and failed to meet expectations.

Sorry mate, TLP is an awful clusterfuck of a mess that has so many problems with it it’s not even funny.

For one, why did they push Fluttercord on us? The pairing that made the LEAST waves was Pinkie and Cheese, and that’s because it actually felt natural and not “A villain not only gets redeemed but is seen as being in the RIGHT despite doing worse things than the villains who were petrified.” and is paired with Fluttershy because it’s not like Shy could find somepony better?

Secondly, Appledash has literally no buildup of them as a couple aside from “Rivals in love” and Ashleigh Ball shipping them. Even if you read the IDW “Season 10” it only gives credence for PinkieCheese and not Appledash or Fluttercord.

Thirdly, why is Rarity single? I get Spike likely outgrew his crush for her, but surely she might have wooed Prince Blueblood or something, since those two are interacting in the IDW comics often after that episode.

Fourthly, Rainbow Dash has shown time and time again that she doesn’t deserve to be a wonderbolt, and yet she’s made their LEADER?

Also I HATED Twilight replacing Celestia, I know the Princesses were moulding her in their image, but could they have done it without deciding to retire while Twilight was in her early 30s at the oldest? Twilight has only been shown doing princess-y things in a handful of episodes, so it’s kind of like they just threw it on her because “it seemed like a good idea at the time”.

Everyone knows the only good episodes of season nine are Frenemies and Last Problem.

I wasn’t fond of the movie. The animation was too uncanny valley for me and the villain was obvious, like TOO obvious. But I do like Izzy.
