The problem with that logic is that it’s deliberately used in a completely hypocritical way by the people pushing it. There’s always a conservative outcry of, “Kids are too young! They shouldn’t be told about gay people until they’re older and they can understand!”
But in the meantime, while those same kids are “too young,” they’re nonetheless absorbing the implicit bias, usually from the very environment composed of those same people crying about how we can’t tell kids about ‘the gays’ until they’re older, that anything LGBT == bad/evil/sick/gross/etc.
It’s not that they really think kids can’t be exposed to LGBT concepts. It’s that they want to get in early to instill their own highly negative view, before there’s a chance for any balanced, fair, or positive LGBT representation to counter it.
Kids need to be exposed to LGBT concepts in sympathetic, personalizing, representative ways, because the misrepresentation, myths, and slurs our culture is full of sure as hell aren’t going to play by the same rule and also wait.

But seriously, I agree. If kids can get shown straight couples, what’s really the matter with gay ones? There’s not that much difference, it’s all love.

I don’t see how the topic of transgender themes would be too inappropriate for the demographic MLP:FIM is going for. In fact, I think it’s more important they understand it earlier so if a child ends up later identifying as transgender, they’re met with more understanding and support from their peers, as well as being able to recognize it themselves, avoiding the internal conflict many transgender people start to go through as they begin to realize how they really want to express themselves.

I think they would not fully understand as you do. friendship? thats good. these themes? when they are older and can understand.

anytime someone calls attention to the breaking of gender roles, it ultimately undermines the concept of gender equality by implying that this is an exception and not the status quo.
