@hawthornbunny
I like this one the best too. It was actually the first one I did. The order I drew them was this, Rainbow Dash, Spike, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and finally Fluttershy. Truth be told I was starting to run out of ideas as I went XD
@Parallel Black
True, but the curse thrives on finding ways to mess with you. You wouldn’t get this kind of power if you in any way wanted it or found it useful XD
And she can’t fuse at all to anything that isn’t a solid and reasonably flat surface. It’s a weird drawback of these things since they’re, at least the “normal” ones, created artificially by painting a character and then bringing it to life. It’s more or less a more advanced form of Chrysalis’s clone spell in that it can create a new entity altogether without needing to copy someone. Not being able to flatten onto any surface that couldn’t have a painting on it is one of those weird arbitrary magical limitations, like ghosts not being able to cross running water or something :D
@redweasel
More or less. Those creatures just have a weird urge to flatten onto walls when they’re otherwise not doing anything, an instinct Rarity inherited. She’ll probably be absentmindedly flopping against walls and being like “Oh, right” for a while after being cured XD
@Another_Lurker
It more or less happens automatically. They have to consciously decide not to flatten to keep it from happening whenever they touch a wall :D
@LunaLover20
I’ll have to see if I have it or not. I can’t remember if I actually did a whole version of that or just what I needed for this pic XD
@Background Pony #C05F
A living hieroglyph. A type of trap created by ancient Somnambulan witches and sorcerers to guard tombs and such. They’re basically a variant of these buggers, having some pros and cons compared to a living portrait :D
@redweasel
She does enjoy wearing the different dresses she makes herself but yeah that’s not her main drive of making dresses. Maybe this curse won’t bother her as much. :P
au contraire, rarity may not be able to style herself, but she rarely does so anyway. mostly she makes clothing for other ponies to wear, and she typically does it in the nude. she only changes her hairstyle under extreme duress, and this way she’s always perfectly coiffed, with no more need to struggle with her hair in the morning.
how did… she find out she was a wall painting? she was just like “well it’s 7:30am time for my daily wall flattening oh hey this time it actually worked!” or something?
@Badumsquish
Aside from the true horror of not being able to style herself, it would probably still be super useful when she’s out on a mission with the rest of the gang. I can imagine her being elected to keep watch when everyone goes to sleep for the night, since no would-be attacker would be able to see her flattened against the side of a tent or something.
A thought: Do you think this ability would work on non-solid surfaces like a liquid? Or would attempting that just end up with her paint-self dissipating in the water? I’m imagining her hiding herself in the flames of the campfire, parts of her two-dimensional body visible as oddly-coloured flames while the others rest.
@Badumsquish
…so, what would happen if you, like, stuck a hat or draped a dress over her body, like a towel? Would it slide off the next time she merged?
@Badumsquish
I have a feeling that (once the curse is lifted) Rarity will constantly change her appearance (wear different outfits, restyle her mane `n tail, even paint over her cutie mark) everyday and avoid wearing jewelry. Also she would give Somnambula an extreme makeover since her current appearance gives Rarara PTSD.

That’s how this curse messes with you. It seems like she got off lightly, and to most anyone else that curse would be an ability. The thing is, is she can’t change her “clothes” like her earrings and headband and tail wrap since they’re basically a part of her now, nor can she restyle her hair or anything. She’s an image that is alive and can come off of walls, not a pony who can flatten onto them. A lifetime of wearing the same tacky clothes, and never being able to restyle her hair, always having the same appearance, never being able to experiment or get creative… forever… >:D
@Algebroot Neogears
She can only move onto solid walls, and she can’t move once on them :D
