Seriously though, the villains betraying Grogar wasn’t “subverting expectations”, it was literally right in front of our faces.
None of them liked working for “Grogar”, he barely appeared or did anything throughout the whole season to warrant being “the Thanos of MLP”, the trio spent the season working together to become a powerful threat and sowing the seeds of their betrayal, and you were honestly surprised “Grogar” got overthrown? Even if he was the real Grogar, this betrayal still would’ve happened.

On the other hand, if it was a new “disposable” villain, it probably wouldn’t of fooled viewers as easily.
Maybe that was done on purpose, so they could use better villains instead of just some random new big bad coming out of nowhere.
And frankly, I’m kinda glad they didn’t go the cliché as hell, “Old villains get nerfed/become the new villain’s stooges” or “Plot Hijacked by Ganon/Groger” route.

Not this guy again. I thought we were done with you
That is entirely on Hasbro’s and the writers’ heads. It’s their fault for making “Grogar” a flat character in the first place.
You mean, generic, Mr. Evil McDoomsday villain from out of nowhere?
I think I like the trio better, and frankly, Groger wouldn’t of done anything much different then they did. The only appealing factor he has is being a mere G1-nod. (But frankly, so is Tirek.)

Oh, the comics don’t have any say in the matter, they never did
No.
You’ll never succeed. Stop act I g like a pathetic little child who didn’t get their way.
yeah but that was one of the big memes that came out of that episode so it kinda got implanted in my mind - at least we’re crystal clear about his crystal fetish
“Yes…crystals…”
“Crystal heart…”
“My crystal slaves…”
“That is mine!”
“What? No! No, stop!”
That’s all of Sombra’s lines in season 3. He never actually said ‘stairs’ for the record.
tbh all I remember about Sombra in S3 was “CRYSSSTALLLS” and “STAIRS” - I can’t for the life of me remember if he had any actual lines
Part of me is afraid it’s because of how the fandom shat on him.
I even remember someone being pissed off that he was actually being a legit threat in the season
no one is scared of you - how can anyone be scared of you if they’re not taking you seriously
@Beau Skunky
and that’s why he suffered an Indiana Jones-style fate

I don’t think anyone is afraid of that…
@Flufux
Maybe Sombra is a more independent villain, and doesn’t work well with others.

It was, and I actually enjoyed his appearance in the season 9 premiere quite a bit…however, if everything was up to me (which it isn’t, I am well aware of that), then I probably would have had him return a bit sooner than that. Also, it would have been nice if he’d actually stayed in the legion of doom longer. I would love to see how he’d interact with the other villains in episodes like Frenemies and the like.
…Okay. That came out of nowhere. What’s the matter? Scared I’ll make all those wonderful inconsistencies in characterization and established canon vanish?

@Johnny B. Mediocre
I think he was better off as an enigmatic and otherworldly entity than as some cliche overlord with a haughty arrogance and an evil laugh or boast here and there.
Oh, GIVE UP ALREADY.
You’re never gonna get your way. Ever. Season 9 will never be redone and you need to stop being delusional. This is getting annoying as hell.
wasn’t a majority of his dialogue in S3 just a whole lot of “CRYSSSSTALLLLLLLS” done by your
mortal enemypotential business partner Big Jim MillerEdited
By screwed you mean actually gave him one one?
The comics are made by completely different people and they never affected the show

I recall, didn’t most fans hate Sombra being reformed in the comics? There was alot of drama over that.
Also, the comics don’t dictate what happens in the show.
Edited
No. They totally screwed with his character. There’s also the fact that his return in the show will have to be accounted for by the comics, in which he was eventually redeemed a while back.
But Sombra returning was nice, right?
