Here’s to the two tightest best friends and lesbian lovers you’ll ever find in Ponyville. According to the Brony fandom, Lyra Heartstrings seemed to have an endearing curiosity about humans and tried to learn more about us while trying to mimic our behavior, such as sitting upright. This light aquamarine Unicorn is always wondered what it must be like to have hands instead of hooves. Such a shame that everypony, including her BFF, didn’t seem to believe her. Bon Bon, however, has always kept a secret, even from her best friend forever, for some time until Cranky Doodle and Matilda’s wedding. Under the code name, Sweetie Drops, she was and is still a member of S.M.I.L.E. (the Secret Monster Intelligence League of Equestria), a monster-fighting secret agency that is apparently the Equestrian equivalent of the Men in Black and possibly the CIA and SIS (M16). It is when a bugbear attacked Ponyville that our beige Earth Pony had to come clean and almost lose her bestie. But, not even a retired life of secrecy and lies destroyed the Magic of Friendship. And besides, since Lyra joined S.M.I.L.E. as well, these Mares in Black will always be there to defend Equestria from stray monster invasions and magically neuralyze witnesses.
 
Ever since they became part of the show, many Bronies hoped or even believed that these two were lovers, and trust me we all like to see some LGBTQ love, like the wedding of Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe. GIF Steven Universe - Kiss But to me, Lyra and Bon Bon weren’t homosexual, but rather homosocial friends. They’re the David and Jonathan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I thought they had a womance or sismance; the female version of bromance. They are so close that they even wanted to merge together, like CatDog. Just because we have intimately close same-sex friends, it doesn’t mean that they will always end up being your lover. However, it seemed that prayers were answered for many LyraBon shippers when in The Big Question we saw the two mare mates propose to each other, and got married sometime after the remaining villains were defeated. Even though I hoped that Lyra and Bon Bon would remain as an example of a homosocial friendship, I’m glad that they got to be together in the end, even as a couple. Heart
 
This year is another future themed project. I made model vectors of these two in their future forms, but I felt like that didn’t work. However, since Lyra was made famous through her sitting down like a human, I decided to do another nostalgic piece. I struggled more with Lyra since her mane was shorter, so I had to guess how the nape of her neck was angled. If you notice I made the heart texture, and if you pay close attention you’ll notice they are colored like Lyra and Bon Bon.
