Princess Celestia turned another page of the book and lifted the cover sheet. Under the sheer cotton paper was small portrait of stallion painted with egg tempera on a thin birch panel. It was secured to the parchment page with triangular paper corners.
“And this is fine fellow is Flaming Sun. He had the dubious distinction of being the first student I had to be expelled from my school, but later to be reinstated and then go on to graduate head of his class. A couple of decades later he became my Minister for Foreign Affairs.”
Miss Cheerilee leaned over to give the portrait a better look. “Oh he does look like a mischievous troublemaker. I’ve seen that look many times myself!”
The princess giggled. “Oh he was! There was this one time…”
