continuing my series of older mane six because yeet. first one was twilight, so time to draw the wifey
dash’s age here is the same as she would be in the s9 finale.
twilight doesnt really show signs of aging, at least not in the same way, but the rest of the mane six do. dash’s hair is a little less vibrant, beginning to grey, and white/grey furs are starting to show on her coat (particularly around her muzzle).
Dash had a LOT of fears about being a mother. She never really saw herself as the mother type, and honestly expected to spend the rest of her life in a career as a wonderbolt, free as a bird. But, Twilight got pregnant, and well… as scary as it seemed, Rainbow wasnt about to bolt on her wife.
She’s the cool mom…. or likes to think she is, anyway. Twilight might have strict schedules and rules for her kids growing up - but Rainbow was always the one to make them break em. She was really proud of herself for it, but Birdie still thinks she’s a nerd (and she takes that VERY personally).
I’ve said before that Twilight was the one to carry all three of the twidash kids, and I do have a real reason for that. Dash’s career is incredibly active, and being out of service for such a long time would be an issue, not just physically but also upon her mental health. Pregnancy isn’t pleasent, and on top of that not being able to fly… just the thought of it is enough to make her upset.
Dash’s relationship with her parents is relatively healthy. It’s not perfect, but it’s healthy. They were incredibly overbearing of her when she was growing up. It was well intentioned - they knew she had a talent for flying, and wanted to give their full support and be sure she keeps pursuing her passion - but it was too much on rainbow a lot of the time, and with trouble expressing her feelings so openly, the feelings got bottled up, and often came out in big explosions. Moving out definitely helped her to realise and express these feelings in a healthy way, and with a good firm talk with her parents, they were receptive to it.
Now, she visits fairly regularly, and they are wonderful grandparents.
Would def drop kick Velvet if Twilight would let her though. She likes to pretend she’s thick skinned, and that she doesn’t care that her parents in law dont accept her - but she does, and she certainly cares about Twilight’s feelings. She used to try and appease them, but now (whenever they have the misfortune of meeting) she is as blunt and as rude as she can be.
Wanted wonderbolt kids, didnt get them. rest in peace the dash legacy. She loves them all equally though - Birdie takes a lot after her, with snark for days and a love of pranks they bond over.
I’d say of her kids, she’s least close to… Lucky? Though Summer and her are polar opposites, and Summer is definitely closer to Twilight, his relationship with Rainbow is very playful. Lucky is, however, sometimes difficult for Rainbow to connect with. She doesnt get her jokes, and Rainbow doesn’t understand her science talk. She loves her, cares for her, and supports her in all that she does, but she’s yet to really have as big a bonding experience with her as she’d like.
Big sis to Scootaloo, and ““cool”” auntie to Lychee. She’s a big giver of tough love to Scootaloo, and when he starts acting out, Lychee. Scootaloo won’t listen, and Lychee will pretend not to listen.
I’ve said this a million times before but she’s autistic, special interest in flying/wonderbolts - and because of her autism, struggles to find ways of expressing her feelings in a healthy/direct way.
also a lesbian
i should mention bc i havent said in a while - im not autistic, so if any autistic individual sees an issue with how i write rainbow (or any of my autistic characters, like lucky wish, crystal, maud, uh…. theres more i think but i cant remember) - please let me know! this goes generally for any kind of representation i have bc like, the last thing i want to do is misrepresent ppl, u kno?
anyway im trying to restrict these older char pieces to talking about them as mothers/in their later life but um. its kinda become “i talk about whatever i want for a bit.”
