Yeah, except Bernie went along with almost everyone in congress in the commencement of the fucking of the American people and the funneling of all our taxpayer money up to the top, plus he became a weak-ass little bitch who handed the election to Biden on a silver fucking platter over the last few months right under our noses anyway, so I no longer wear the Bernie pin and I no longer support Bernie Sanders. I’m writing “Fuck You” in the blank for president in November.

The air purifier has a true HEPA filter, activated charcoal, an ionizing function (but somehow doesn’t produce any ozone), and another layer before the HEPA layer that can be cleaned/washed, extending the life of the filter to a good few months or so.
 
My gas mask filters are what I could find. 1 is a pretty new Polish FP-5 NBC/CBRN filter, which to my knowledge has a HEPA filter, activated charcoal, and another particulate layer. It covers the vast majority of chemicals, nucleotides, and biological threats. another other is an older 90s FP-5 filter (cross your fingers), and the 3rd is a Scott pro 2000 filter with p100 particulate filtration (HEPA I believe) and other layers that cover some vapors. I’ve heard very conflicting things on whether or not SARS-CoV-2 can travel in vapors and whether or not the possibility of it getting through the HEPA filter is substantial enough that activated charcoal helps. Some people swear by it though, and being that I have to make due with my Warsaw PACT GOST threaded masks instead of NATO STANAG, there are very few options for filters I can use in the first place without just bodging them on there really tight and possibly damaging my masks. (One nice thing is that Scott Pro 2000 filters apparently use 40mm DIN and not 40mm NATO STANAG threads. The DIN threads are more similar to normalized RD40 threads than they are to pure NATO. Both normalized RD40 and 40mm DIN threads can supposedly fit either GOST or NATO masks, so I should be covered.
 
Beware of sellers though, who label NATO filters as RD40, GOST filters as NATO, NATO filters as GOST, etc. or who try to tell you that filters don’t expire, or that old soviet-era filters don’t have asbestos. They’ve been proven wrong in laboratories multiple times. Shitty sellers like that put profits over people, and they should be reported or sued if possible.

This is my other grandma I’m talking about. Also, with those fundamentalist ones it’s more somewhere between rocky and decent now, leaning towards decent. We actually get along and put aside our differences for the most part. We don’t talk but a few times a year, and maybe see each other for the holidays and birthdays… but we’re family as family should be now at least and respect each other.

If you end up using PLA to make respirator, make sure that you cover it with bondo and sand it afterwards. That way you can fill in all the micro-gaps beforehand.

Yeah, hopefully as the current crisis wanes (knock on wood), there will be a surplus of good-quality PPE for many years to come. Don’t expect the prices to come down from the stratosphere anytime soon, but maybe in two years. I tell ya, for all the special little plastic adapters which would be REALLY useful for my own suits & masks, a PLA/3D printer would be super handy right now. So that’s my next big purchase. LoL
 
Just out of curiosity, is the filter you ordered a HEPA, and/or is there a germicidal aspect to it? Good on you btw, doing something positive for the vulnerable.

Agh, decided to hold off on the purchase. I follow decent decontamination procedures, so I just determined that a better use of my money was to spend it on an air purifier for my grandma. She has COPD, and is the main reason I am so extemely cautious with this virus in the first place. I figure a good purifier could help slow potential transmission levels in her apartment a few percent, and help her breathing in general as well. Hopefully I can still find a good suit later.

Oh, like Halloween! I grew up homeschooled in a family of lunar worshippers, so I’m still learning about the world sometimes. I stopped donating plasma myself. They won’t let me wear my GP-5 gas mask at all, and if I wear my RZ mask (which seems to be n-95 equivalent, but I’m not entirely sure how well it seems to my face, even when I slide up nice and tight), I still have to take it off for well over a minute while I’m sitting 2 feet directly in front of a screener as they talk to me, check my face for signs of drug use, and have me get a thermometer in my mouth. My lung capacity tops out at about a minute these days, so if can’t just hold my breath the whole time.
