OH MY GOD! I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS ON METV! I can just hear the opening to it:  
Three gunshots  
Connors racking the lever with one hand because of the ring lever on his gun  
Narrator: The Rifleman! Starring Chuck Connors.

Did not expect to see a discussion on classic tv westerns on derpibooru, but that’s one of the things I like about the internet.

The anachronism is also likely deliberate. The main character of The Rifleman, whom Pinkie is portraying, actually used a Winchester 1892 rifle on the show.

You wanna get really pedantic, the Wild West as we understand it from Hollywood pretty much never existed - and I don’t just mean the bits about Native American character assassination. I don’t wanna derail from cute TJPones art, though, so I’ll just say that I found the video History Summarized: The Wild West an interesting watch.

To the extent that I found any of the black-and-white era Western stuff watchable, I was more impressed by “Have Gun, Will Travel” with Richard Boone as “Paladin,” a cool-headed intellectual take on the “mysterious badass gunfighter” concept, who was as much a detective as a gunslinger. But I was always more of a science fiction fan, and if you ask me about television from that era I’m going to talk about the original Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

…also, because I am a horrible autist, I am amused by the fact that Ponk’s rifle is a Winchester 1892, a model not introduced until decades after the series was set. But this isn’t TJpones’s fault. The ‘92 was a hugely popular and common model in the early and mid 20th Century and because it looked similar to earlier Winchesters, but was a stronger, more refined, more reliable design that would feed crimped blanks reliably, Hollywood movie production houses bought hundreds of them in the early 20th Century for use as props and used them very hard for generations. Blackpowder blanks leave residue that absorbs moisture and causes corrosion if the weapon is not promptly cleaned, but those ‘92s were left filthy and kept on chugging along.
 
A ‘66 would have the polished brass receiver. A ‘73 would have a wrought iron receiver and the big C-shaped steel reinforcement plates pinned to both sides. If anyone cares.
 
Likewise, movie houses bought surplus Colt Single Action Army revolvers by the truckload for use as props and they’re just about all you see on screen in any 20th Century Western–but in the real world there were many competing designs, though admittedly most of them didn’t have the SAA’s sleek, graceful lines and weren’t so photogenic. Merwin & Hulbert revolvers and some of the early Smith & Wessons were downright weird-looking–they look like steampunk artifacts from an alternate timeline.

In a way…? LoL The movies ‘featured’ on Svengoolie are usually old; lots of 50s & 60s low-budget sci-fi/horror flicks – stuff that MST3k would (and did) riff, Revenge of the Creature being a stand-out example of that. Side note: that particular film contains Clint Eastwood’s acting debut, and he’s uncredited.
 
Otherwise, I’m gonna say nope. For movies, we’d probably flip it over to AMC or TCM if they’re showing something interesting, and MeTV’s showing something we hate, like Gilligan’s Island. LoL

Yep, my Dad is pretty much glued to this channel most evenings, so of course, when I’m in that part of the world, I’m watching it, too. Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Bonanza, Rawhide, Bat Masterson, The Big Valley….
