Because (completely baseless, by the way) complaints about “ruining a character” by a fandom known for complaining about everything and anything anyways just don’t have the same power as complaints about being intolerant towards handicapped people.
 
Granted, SJWs will ALSO complain about everything and anything, but I have to say that, while I don’t approve of the Derpy censoring, the SJWs in this case were more justified than the imbeciles whining about Twilight getting wings.

If it is a choice between pandering too much to the whims of actual fans and pandering to the whims of a bunch of brainless suits at Hasbro, I think I will take the fan pandering.

Maybe they took Derpy out because it was entwining the show too much with the fandom, and if you do that, you start heading into weird territory.
 
Because the problem is that if you give fans an inch, they’ll take a mile. Because, as Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software fame pointed out, fans don’t know what they wan. Because, as Tiny Toon’s cancellation illustrated, clingy fans can get really disruptive.

Well duh, in her speaking role she was an offensive stereotype and her existence wasn’t netting them any significant money from the target demographic anyway, so what do they care?
 
Now Alicorn Twilight, on the other hand…there’s some pretty significant net gain from all the little girls.
