There was an image somewhere on Memebase not too long ago that detailed a cycle of how things go within this fandom when an episode is released. First, there is the announcement of the episode, followed by complaints the episode won’t be that good or it will ruin the fanbase/cause extinction of bronies. Then people actually watch the episode and most will actually think it’s not too bad, and a few will even think it’s good. This cycle, from what I have seen, has happened with almost every single episode since the middle of season 1, and the reactions and the behaviors haven’t changed. Personally, I am going to trust the writers of the show considering the track record of the quality of their work and go along with it and, perhaps after watching it, it might not be so bad after all. To me, if it happened that Twilight stayed an alicorn, I have a feeling that her role would diminish somewhat and, considering Twilight is one of the most popular characters of the series, I doubt they will keep her that way and bring her back to being a simple unicorn eventually for more roles and more episodes.
Besides, has anyone even looked at the episode synopsis? It says that a spell cast by Twilight switches the ponies’ cutie marks and destinies and that Twilight has to find a cure to make everything right. With a synopsis like that, I wager this will only be for a single episode and it will return to normal before the episode ends when Twilight casts the spell to return things to normal.
TL,DR: Shut the **** up, this has happened before, quit your complaining.
Meh. I’ve been expecting something like this since halfway through season 2. I really have no objection to her becoming an alicorn other than they should have spent more time developing it, with Twilight getting more responsibilities and powers througout S3.
Actually, this reminds me of the Derpy drama. All of the vocal “special” members of the fandom, you know, the pant-shitting neckbeard ones with no job and too much free time (not to mention the stalker tendencies to find the staff at their place of work), spam the staff with their catastrophically poor fanfics and fan characters until they get what the want. With no one in charge of the show any more, this was bound to happen thanks to that rapport we used to have with them. I miss the Equestria Girls era.
The only thing that I’m worried is that the episode will turn out really good but so many people will have whipped themselves up into a frenzy over this that confirmation bias goes into effect.
