I imagine under Chrysalis’s reign they wouldn’t have been all that common. Her subjects constantly went without enough to eat, and she’d deploy the whole hive in swarm tactics during invasions… despite it being a wasteful move with a millennium-long track record of not working as hoped.

Evidently Chrysalis was pretty aggressive about settling scores and seizing new food sources for her hive, so there were lots of chances for Changelings no longer in their prime to wind up killed or abandoned.

Bookling likes fics

For a fairly long time I had been wondering if there was any image depicting an elderly changeling. This is a very nice find and a wonderfully done design.
