The OP of the awards fucked up big time, so while some people (mostly EqGfags who benefited) are adamant that the letter of the rule and OP’s word of god are final, everyone else is pointing out the incompetency and insisting that the “results” should actually follow common sense rather than the complete clusterfuck that is the OP’s version. This is the OP’s fucked up version, the other one is the “”“fake””” that’s actually sensible and takes the votes of the board into account.  
I don’t know if that’s the direct explanation for the votes - I have no idea how many /mlp/ users actually have derpi accounts, or if this is one of the infrequent cases where derpibooru’s opinions match /mlp/‘s, or if it’s just that people saw one image get merged into another and then the first one get reposted again and are tired of the spam.
