This! The opinions you see about Nyx are all malformed bad opinions from a single guy that tons of other idiots just parrot mindlessly. Everyone else is memeing. I doubt there are many people who both genuinely hate Nyx and actually read the story.

Correction, they parrot each other. It’s more of Chinese Whispers.  
Due to never properly checking it out, most of the complaints they bring up are already fixed as of the Season 2 revision of the story from 2012.  
Heck, sometimes there’s arguments that are perfectly in line with the show yet are called “Out of Character” because those same people don’t pay enough attention to the show.
 
For example: “Twilight would never overreact over Celestia and would never do something that goes against her mentor!”  
A common defense is bringing up Lesson Zero, though /mlp/ seems to hate that episode for Twilight being “out of character” along with not trusting anything Faust didn’t work on. (e.g. anything not Season 1)  
A better comparison that comes from Season 1 itself would be the episode in which Twilight is trying to keep Fluttershy safe after Fluttershy stole Celestia’s pet phoenix.  
My memory is not so clear but I think Twilight said something to the tune of “She could banish you from Equestria, or lock you up in a cage! Or banish you from Equestria and lock you in a cage!”
