I think that should be a requirement for these stories. That, and watching every episode of the TV show.

I sorry but I don’t care for the comic series, I fine with how the television series ended despite its flaws.

It’s not only Discord being retconned to a degree, but he is a lot more reckless than the show presents himself (yes, I’m aware what’s coming, I’m even accounting for that) In the show, he’s still a foil, but a foil that breaks the fourth wall once in a while - something close to Lawful Chaotic . IDW is more Neutral-to-Evil Chaotic and doesn’t seem to have any consideration of the consequences of his actions at all, all to be able to spot-on-the-moment humor and excessive pop culture gags.
 
This is not consistent, there are issues that present him fine, like the one that he briefly gave the animals to actually talk verbally to FS as a bday gift, that’s very consistent with the show’s Discord.
 
Most of that I attribute to the fact that Hasbro is only checking these for improper children’s content and not to show consistency. If this Season 10 is going to have a bit more creative oversight from someone like Meghan, only to say “noo, I don’t think Discord would do this…”, that would help a lot.

The Cosmos arc retcons his backstory so that he’s achtually a poor victim of circumstances that wouldn’t hurt a fly and sacrificed his reputation for no reason other than making sure the complete monster that did the evil stuff that’s being attributed to him would eventually come back. It’s fucking stupid and makes less and less sense the more you think about it.

I have no idea what you are talking about with Discord. Is it because he has some introspective moments in the comic?

 
I have no idea what to really think about this. I don’t really read the comics all to much and what I’ve seen for myself (and heard from other people), my feelings on them are very mixed.

Adventure Time did the same thing with its comic. It was advertised as “season 11”.

I like that there’s going to be more comics. But to announce it as “Season 10” feels out of place.

How dare they?

I hope Season 10 will give Marble Pie the happy ending she deserves after her heartbreak in Best Gift Ever.

Well, I disagree. If this is going to work than all IDW needs is to do exactly what they have been doing, especially since what the comics have done with Chrysalis, Sombra, and many others has been far superior than the show and has been the case for years.

I’ll give it a chance. I’ve followed the comics for years, now. It’s had its downs, sure, but it’s also had some very good ups. I’ll judge it when it comes out.

What are you talking about? comics and shows are not the same, both are different stuffs as well as Marvel, DC, Star wars, Aliens etc;. Sometimes they are sequels, adaptations and something different that does not compare with the above.

That’s the real important question right here.

A key point to make this work if this means Hasbro via Meghan Mccarthy (who still serves as the MLP universe narrative editor last I heard) has some stronger oversight here. We don’t have to worry about the comics messing up show continuity outside the final episode but having some guidance of where they want to take longer arcs would be of great help.
 
Reigning in IDW’s general take on Discord would be one thing, which tends to be waaaay off the show’s mark.

You know, I wonder if they will include Nightmare Rarity, because after seeing Rarity in S9Ep26, when I saw her hair, that reminded me of Nightmare Rarity.

I knew this was going to happen, the same thing happened with adventure time (Season 11).

No we didn’t. We could speculate that the comics would continue but we didn’t know for sure. And we definitely did not know they would be marketed as “season 10”.

The IDW writers seem to simply abandon ideas instead of trying to come up with ways to fit them with the show. They even stopped using Chrysalis around the time she returned in the show even though she used to be reoccurring villain in the comics.
 
But who knows, maybe now that they know they won’t be contradicted in the future they can go back and rescue some stories with explanations and retcons.

There are heaps of reasons as to why, with the track record the comic series have.
 
This is going to be messy, especially if they decide to revisit their own shitty interpretations of certain characters and concepts that have been either obliterated by the series or thrown straight into the trash heap of canon discontinuity by their sheer mediocrity, like the “Nightmare Forces”, “Emolestia and Hipster Luna” or “Redeemed Sombra and Radiant Sue”.
 
If they want to become the new “main” source of canon, they’d better get their act straightened the hell out, preferably with Hasbro breathing down their neck.
