@Background Pony #DB1D
i said it was my opinion, but im not the only one who felt like that. No one has a problem with a female protagonist but when the fact that she is a woman is the driving point of the movie, thats just not intresting. I want more female characters not female characters. When the marketing material for the movie is like “Ms Marvel, the most powerfull hero ever and shes a woman” <— this is exageration for emphasis> as if the fact she is a woman is the most important thing, who cares, just let me have my mindless fun. there are countless examples of female protagonists who were depicted as strong, resorceful, competant, intelegent, and femenin. and were bad ass because of it.
Because god forbid we have a female protagonist in a marvel movie I guess. I watched the movie and I didn’t think it was too “political”. I don’t know where this overreaction about Captain Marvel even came from. It is a movie like any other. Not the best I ever watched but not the worst either.
@Ponyko
I haven’t seen the film in question, but some poking around reviews and comments revealed nothing of what you accuse it of. It was also wildly successful, apparently with no protest movements from any circles about its message.
Also, as a side note, if people don’t want to consume works with such messages, then they wouldn’t go consume them. That they are consumed in such large amounts suggests your view is in the minority.
@Zyr87
I did say it was an exageration, Take the “captain marvel” movie, what was the message here? Woman good Man bad and it was rammed in your face time and time again. She wasnt a character, she was a mouth piece for an ideology and agenda. compair that to “Wonder Woman” she was a powerfull character, a woman, a bad ass fighter and cool. Marvel was the exact oposite in my opinion.
@Ponyko
Hmmm… When was the last time you saw something like that? Because I can tell you the last time I did: never.
@Ponyko
Fortunately almost no works outside of (bad) sitcoms do not have all or most of their characters anywhere near that flat. I read a lot of lesbian fiction, usually self-published. None of it gets anywhere near that one-note. The characters are fully fleshed people, the lead of whom just happens to be attracted to the same sex.
i want to see characters in media, not straight people, not gay people, not white people, not black people, justpeople, i like open debate, i enjoyed debating. and your right LGBTQ couples should be more easily able to adopt, but its happening, will happen, has happened. patience is a vertue.
@Zyr87
Representation is not the same as raming it down peoples mouths, Representation is fine. this is an exagaration but the moment a character stops the movie to say “Im Gay BTW” when it has nothing to do with the plot, as thought the entire movie hinged on it. that isnt representation.
Final thought, Respect is earned not given, people are entitled to nothing they dont earn for themselfs, just because one LGBTQ person got something does not mean that every other LGBTQ person is entitled to it. that goes for strait people too
@Ponyko
You still have the right to do that (as in the government can’t stop you), but, and this is key, you do not have, and never have had, the right to avoid the consequences of your words.
Also people have the right not to associate with bigots and assholes if they so choose. Generally when they say you can’t say that they’re saying that you’re saying that is liable to create tensions and file people up for no good reason, not that you have no right to say it.
I want the right to say what the hell i like, if i want to tell a joke about a race or what-not i should be able to, now im told, you cant say that, you cant say this.
@Zyr87
Gay conversion therapy does not work, you cant change who you are. Far left and Far right are all idiots, they play stupid identiy games, but Group identity leads to Triblism and violence. individual person first, fredom of self first, race cread or color last.
@Ponyko
I have a simple idea: treat everyone you meet with respect, and don’t worry if they’re lgbt. Don’t worry about the definitions and such. Most lgbt individuals I’ve met don’t make a big deal out of their sexuality unless they’re making a point out of someone’s bigotry or they’re trying to get a date (or are participating in a gay pride parade). There are always the fanatics, but they’re rarer than conservatives make them out to be
@Zyr87
The idea that the violence of the civil rights movements was the driving force of change is debateable at baest. ultimately im one person who’s confused. Why should i step aside for someone else because they have a louder voice than me. Why do LGBTQ rights over turn my rights. We are all just people :(
@Ponyko
First I’ve heard of that. It always seems like it’s the conservatives trying to put everyone into a little box and giving or taking rights based on what box they’re in, never mind trying to change who they are on a fundamental level (see gay conversion therapy)
“Hey black people, just be white, like normal people! Then we’ll treat you normal after you stop talking about your dark skin gosh” @Ponyko
See how silly that sounds? That’s you right now.
@HippyKat13
yes im angry, because there is no order, its so chaotic it makes no sence, even the LGBTQ people argue over what LGBTQ realy encompases, so what chance do the rest of us have :(
