Discord wasn’t flanderized. In fact, fucking with people is a trademark of his character. The problem is that his ‘plan’ was stupid and horribly thought out beyond all reason and he faces no consequences for his recklessness.

He wasn’t trying to redeem them. He was trying to boost Twilight’s confidence as a ruler by having her and her friends fight their three worst enemies. It backfired because they found Grogar’s bell and drained his magic, removing the safety net, and thus putting Equestria in real danger.

Gusty likely passed away a long time ago, especially if age spells didn’t even exist (might not have at the time), Grogar may have lived on in his banishment, still around, or he died.

The writers really wanted Discord to be that puppeteer from S2 and S4 and it doesn’t matter to them that he wouldn’t risk Fluttershy for this stupid plan to help out Twilight. Only Dubuc and Haber think that way but these are people who think Dash, Pinkie, Twilight and Rarity would act like idiots so late in the series in 2 4 6 Great, Yakkity Sax, Trivial Problem and Dragon Dropped.

That’s the fun of Google Translate. Some phrases translated from English to at least one other language and back into English might make no sense at all, some make their own brand of sense. Generally, it’s just fun to see how far off track Google Translate can be.

Discord severely underestimated the league. It’s his fatal flaw - he’s so high up in the tier list, he always underestimates everyone around him. It’s why he lost to the Mane Six in season 2 and why Tirek was able to use him so easily in season 4.

I still can’t figure out: Was Discord planning all of this from the begining or he really underestimated the league ?

Discord doesn’t think everything through, being the overconfident and chaotic draconequus he tends to be, but he isn’t quite inept, since he’s rather intelligent.
 
He’s proven to be an excellent manipulator on multiple occasions this season, from the encouraging speech he gave Twilight and her friends, from how the Grogar trick went Horribly Right, to how he manipulated Sombra into thinking he was outsmarting him (pointing out Fluttershy being his favorite so he could “sacrifice” himself), and how he intentionally pissed off Tirek so he’d make the mistake of trying to off him when he’s holding something that reflects magic.
 
(It would honestly be a bad portrayal of Discord if he wasn’t an excellent manipulator, because what kind of trickster isn’t good at manipulation, powers or not?)

It’s a Q thing, as stated. Just as Q tested and teased Picard, Discord tested and teased Twilight. The difference is Discord is inept but Q isn’t. Maybe.

Discord’s lesson in season 4 and beyond was about not betraying his friends for his own benefit.
 
The season 9 finale was a way - in his mind - to boost Twilight’s confidence after she showed zero of it at the start of the episode. What happened with Sombra even proved his plan was working. Twilight was much more willing and confident in herself after Sombra’s defeat.

I don’t know that much of old gen MLP, but wasn’t Grogar already immortal without the bell?? Or was he just a normal goat that became corrupted or something?
